There have been many instances where the Others refer to the Island as a person. Has it ever been made clear that they are linking Jacob with the Island or maybe someone else. For example in the scene where Widmore was on the Island and was thinking he is a "cowboy" riding in on his horse and was demanding information why they saved the boy(Ben) and RA said the Island chooses who it chooses or something like that. So what really is the "Island" in this case and how is it made aware to them exactly what the Island wants? Is it channeled through Jacob or what. Does anyone really know>? I dont recall really. I know JL referred to the island as a person also when he responded to Boones death as a "sacrifice the island demanded". I speak of it as a person because typically Island and structurs do not carry emotions or thoughts. Did I miss the episode or episodes that clearly pointed to how they know what the Island truly wants?

The island is Where's Waldo...
that's why it's so hard to find.

After the season we just finished seeing, I've thought that when locke was being told via the dream or hallucinations what the island wanted we were seeing jacob's enemy manipulate john. and when they say jacob's list or what jacob wants, that was jacob speaking to richard to tell ben. or ben just lying.

Locke being used as the loophole b/c of his gullibility lends me to believe he was being played the whole time by smokey/jacob's enemy.

Maybe but I dont think ben was a very gullible person. He was set up by the beach boy t do exactly wha the needed him to do. When Ben was "judged" by Smokey an his dead daughter appears threatening to kill him if he didnt do everything JL told him to do you are bound to listen. Interesting when you watch JL talking to Ben and basically prying that information out of him, it was almost a give away after rewatching the episode that he in fact is both Smokey/beachboy. It is to me anyway. This is just one example of some of JL post-death scenes where he says somethign that were hints of his true identity. But we wil have to see what really is JL's true identity.

I'm no expert on ancient cultures/religious beliefs, etc... but aren't there plenty of examples of cultures believing that their god/s inhabit things and or objects? If this is the case, then a certain god "is" the island, and the followers can assume that it is the island's will for certain things to be done. Don't know how Jacob or blackshirt fit into this, but it's just a rough idea for me at this point.

But are you speaking of Mother Nature as an actual person, repsonsible for the weather we see, or just for argument sake for the show?
