I was re-watching season 1 and am now curious as to what it is that John Locke sees when he meets the smoke monster. I never realized how strange it is that he acts the entire season.
My guess is that John sees an older version of Walt. The two characters have been tied together since the beginning and John has said multiple things that show he knows more about Walt then he should. He first says that he is special to Michael and later asks Walt why he burned the boat. Is it possible that he saw an older version of Walt that somehow instilled this idea of fate and faith in the survivors future on the island? Did this older version of Walt tell him about the boat and that he was special (maybe even other things)?

I am thinking that what JL saw was Smokey himself and attirbuted it to the ISalnd as something magical. He might have thought Smokey was the "eye" or the thing that represents the Island and not being attacked by it but being examined to see if he would be right for the loophole. I say this because my theory suggests that beachboy and Smokey are the same thing and if they arent than Smokey and beachboy are working together

Thanks for your input losttime, I've meddled with that theory in my head as well.
I just finished watching season 1 over again. Another interesting conversation that could lend itself to theory's goes on between locke and jack. Jack say's the monster could have killed john, john says he seriously doubts that. Jack then goes on to say he does not believe in destiny, which locke says "you do you just don't know it yet"
Is it all just faith or is what locke saw when he met the monster have anything to do with what he is saying?

After seeing all of S5 and the icident with Montag and the rest of Rousseau's Team, thnk L would have been killed or "infected" by Smokey as the Team was and would have made for the loophole to come quicker. thats how I see it.

Interesting theory. But when Walt and Locke talk about whether Walt was the one who poisoned Michael's water, Walt ended by saying: 'Don't open it, Mr Locke! Just don't open it!"
And Locke had no idea how Walt knew about the hatch.

I dont think JL knew what Walt was talking about at that moment. Walt we kow was "special" We dont know how but he was special before even getting to the Island so he might have had heighten awareness or what. All I know is that TPTB are basically done wit hWalt for the most part based on a podacast wit hthem. They did say Walt's story is told and that he may be seen in S6 but for the most part he is done. They may be lying but who kows with them.

Didn't Boone tell Shannon about the hatch and everyone got to know about it including Walt?
He must have had a dream in which he saw a gun pointed at Locke's head.

I am just kida going by what Damon Lindelof commented on about Walt. That through JL TPTB were telling us that Walt will not be back on the Island but they did say that seeing him in the final season is a possibility, just not on the Island. Thats all I know about Walts character on the show
could the smoke monster show JL the scene sorta like ben's but instead of the past it was the future, where JL and ben killed jacob?
