what's important about the episode "expose'"

can someone please tell me what the importance is, if any, in the episode "expose'"? i'm re-watching all of the episodes and i'm up to season 3 but i cannot stand those 2 idiots niki and paolo therefore i can't stand watching that episode. so i figured i'd ask you guys what, if anything is important or meaningful in that episode.

TPTB thought that they would add new charaters to the story but based on negative feedback they ended that saga early

Expose was cool because we see those murderous idiots buried alive
after Smokey Medusa spiders sting/bite Nikki.

I thought she was hot. but I do have t osay that Paulo did love her and was so worried tha tif she found the diamonds she would leave him. Turned out he was right. In spite of her doing that to him he still loved her enough to try to let her know a spider crawling on her. Whether it was Smokey or not Icant say. I thought someone said you hear the clicking sound somewhere during that scene

I am pretty sure Damon declared on a podcast that the Medusa spider
that bit Nikki was a form of Smokey.

The only thing i can think of regarding nikki and paulo is if Myles somehow comes across there grave, maybe causing some sort of mistrust between Myles and Hugo, since Hugo buried them.

Besides the introduction and exit of the most dumbest characters ever? Actually, all the stuff that happened on the show that didnt have to do with Paolo and Nikki were important, especially the meeting between Ben and Juliet in the Dharma station.

I honestly thought the way they were killed was very interesting. How Paulo was so worried that she was going to leave him if he said he found the diamonds. I mean did anyone honestly think thats what he was doing? I am sure we all thought he was doing this because he wanted the diamonds for himself so he was lying about not finding them. Took me by surprise and made me almost feel bad for him. Granted they both killed someone for the diamonds to begin with. But I guess what comes around goes around

It would have been cool if they had done it by adding two new Others.
They could give different angles of things, like Expose, but from a more interesting Others perspective.
They could have been the Others over hearing Ben and Juliet, or they could be spying on the Oceanic survivors and over hear things.

Bare in mind, Nikki would still have to be one of the people cast though.

I just finished watching that episode and yes, you can hear the clicking. I think Nikki hears it to because she stops and looks around at the same time you hear the clicking.

No it doesnt. The fact that Smokie took on the form of the spider has nothign to do wit hthe fact that there are actually spiders on the Island. For example the horse that was in Kates story and she saw it on the Island. The spider in the Drs jar was just a spider and not necessarily the one that bit Nikki.

Its the black box that ben tells john about. It makes anything you wish for or think about happen.
If I didn't know any better, I would think the point of that episode would be to explain how John can die and resurrect. But the had to toss in his body at the end of season 5. So I am dumb founded why that episode has any importance but to ruin a couple of actors careers.

I was always under the impression that it was just a fun look at what the "C-List Losties" were doing while all the A-List adventures were happening. Meant to be fun and not really important, but something interesting for the viewer. Apparently this didn't go as well as hoped.

I thought it was a well-written episode and there were some sneaky tie-ins.

BTW, I may be wrong but I really thought I could see Nikki and Paulo in the background of a scene in Season 1, episode 19.
