Not sure if this has been mentioned, and sorry if it has, but there is a low budget movie called Primer which deals with time travel.
There is a scene where one of the characters is introducing another character to the fact that he has successfully created a device that will allow people to travel back in time. In this scene he takes his friend to a place where he (the creator of the time machine) they see his past self walking into a building. He makes it clear that he cannot meet his past self and can cause issues or rather alterations in history, so to speak. Not to mention freak your past self out.
This reminded me of the orientation film with Chang "freaking out" that the rabbit cannot see its past/future self.
I know this means nothing to Lost necessarily but... Just thought it was interesting that time travel has consistent rules or conditions that are standard in writing/film/tv which perhaps shows we can actually theorize plots from and actually gain insight to the show. (which is why this forum is a wonderful social network for fans of the show to communicate and discuss and of course theorize...great for me because my fiancee no longer watches the show 'cause it is too......confusing. Boo hoo. I have a few friends that watch the show religiously and I can talk to them to an extent. But they are not as obsessed as me I guess. So I love viewing the posts, threads, and theories here and occasionally posting a thought or two myself. So not to get on a huge tangent any further... thanks to everyone on the Forum for all your wild, zany, entertaining and allowing us to get that much closer to figuring out the puzzle... definitely takes the edge off until the show begins again.
Also with evidence from Lost's past episodes, careful analysis of these episodes, and standards/consistencies of science fiction/time travel plots, I feel that the donkey wheel does not create clones but rather the fact that the characters can most definitely encounter themselves in another period of time and perhaps cause problems or changes in that particular time and thus altering Whatever Happened.?!?.
:eek::confused::eek::confused:
