Ok so I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what this big secret is in the flash forwards?? The last episode last season shows Jack talking to Kate and he says "we can't lie anymore". Then this season Jack goes to see Hurley and asks Hurley if he's "told anyone" where Hurley basically says "did you think I'd go crazy and tell them" or something along those lines. Any ideas what it could be?? I'm thinking maybe they're keeping the secret that there were people on the island that are still alive who chose to stay behind that aren't part of the Oceanic 6 (ie. Locke) or anyone else who may choose to not come home. I say that because the man who came to see Hurley in the Asylum asks him if "they are still alive" and thats when Hurley freaks out. Just a thought!

Since Ana Lucia's old partner did not seem to know anything about them being on the island, my guess is that somehow the world believes they were rescued almost immediately after the crash OR only those six were on the island. So I think that is the basis of the big secret. And then that leads into the world thinking everyone else is dead. When many of them might still be alive on the island.

That's true, I forgot about that since Ana Lucia's partner didn't mention anything about the island. Maybe that's what they're hiding from everyone?

i think thats definitely the secret, that everyone else is still out there on the island and more than 6 of them survived the crash or the stay on the island, i think they cut some sort of deal with the people on the freighter (who Im not sure are necessarily Dharma) and that deal included keeping their mouth shut about the island

The island and "them" could be the secret... but I doubt its the island as a the piece of land itself... how did they explain where they were found? Floating in the water for 3 months? They had to tell the world something, like surviving on an island or something. Keeping the secrets of the islands powers with the freighter sounds good, if thats how they got off, and they agreed to say they found them on some island somewhere without mentioning anything about its special properties. If the freighter isn't the means of rescue, then the company/interests could still be looking for answers and want to go back.
Or it could just be the "them" that the fake Oceanic insurance guy asks about. Most of the people decided to stay and if they tell people they are there, then people will go back to get them or more people will go to do another Dharma thingy. I think the fake insurance guy is working for a company trying to find the island to exploit it. One thing is for sure, no one else but the 6 know there are people that stayed behind.
Lot's of questions to be resolved in order to come up with a clear answer as to what is being hidden. Great show!

Seems to me it would all be best kept a secret to appear sane in the world off the island.
That being said
One of the secrets would be the other survivors, if they survived, If they didn't part of the secret may be why they didn't. Someone brought up the point in another thread that who the six were might have been pre chosen.
Ben also said that the people on the boat were trying to find the island for awhile and apparently he was trying to keep them out. Of course this is Lost so they are all connected and connected to the Dharma initiative and Hanso etc.HOw they are all connected for good or bad is still a mystery though. (brain hurts) Perhaps the secret the six keep is they had to keep their mouths shut about anything that went on on the island period, including the possibility that there could be more survivors, in order to be allowed to leave. Perhaps that is why the secret seems so guilty because they know they left all the other people behind. And perhaps they know who exactly they left them behind with.
when you read the stuff about Hanso and his works it all sounds pretty creepy The Dharma initiative too. Perhaps Ben was not so awful after all in getting rid of all the Dharma I people. He seems jealous and insane to me at the moment but maybe there is more to his story as well.

Good points coldandevell!
I only just read the stuff on another post about Hanzo and Rachel and Dharma. I thought Ben was evil, killing off the people. I still think hes a not-so-good guy with his lying and manipulation of people, but with that new info I think he may have done the right thing if Hanzo was being subverted by Mittelwerk to use his corp to do all these bad things. Can't wait for this stuff to get into the show!!!

I agree, that the *secret* is that the Oceanic 6 are lying about other survivors of the plane crash. They've either been told to not say anything, or they decided/agreed NOT to say anything.
Jack's comment to Kate in the season finale of S3, was "We can't keep lying". Jack and Hurley's conversation and Hurley asking if Jack thought he said something. The man that visited Hurley asking "are they alive". The cop asking Hurley if he knew Ana, and Hurley saying he didn't know Ana.....Hurley is keeping the *secret*
Why it's a secret, is the big question. Are they protecting the island and the survivors left behind? Were they forced to keep the secret? Why did they receive *Golden Passes*, and how does the commercial tie into the story?Oceanic Airlines is ressuming flights?
It's a lot to ponder.....and it's slowly driving me dizzy....lol
Maybe if they told others survived those survivors would be killed or punished, because it is apparent that the world believes there is only 6 survivors, but the guilt of leaving them behind is too much.

i also agree that the secret is the rest of the survivors, the others and all the events that have occurred on the island but am not sure why.

I think i found proof that they are other survivors ( on the last S3 last episode Jack says to Kate "how he flys every friday hoping to crash on the island again"
(he wouldnt want to crash on the island if there was nobody there, would he)

I think there is definitely going to be people left on the island, you have to think about all the Others who live there and who will stay there and also Locke who has become apart of the island doesn't want to go back. I think it may come down to Jack having to choose whether to stay with the Others and somewhat trust Ben or choose to go with the unknown Freighter people whom we know aren't who they said they are. I think Ben gets a lot of flack because of everything that has happened but I think Jack is going to find out once he's back in the US that Ben had been right all along. Ben may seem really bad but he's also very smart and knows a lot more about the island than anyone else really. I'm interested to see where Lost is going with this.

At the end of S3, Jack semed wracked with guilt - clearly trying to get back (by taking all those flights, hoping he'd crash). I got the feeling he felt guilty about either WHO he'd left, WHY he'd left them or the CIRCUMSTANCES he'd left them in... Kate doesn't want to go back. I'm sure I rememebr her saying something like 'we have to let go / move on' or something about her life being ok now?
Flash to Hurley this time (I agree with other posters that Hurley and Jack chat in the mental institution BEFORE Jack and Kate chat in S3) - Jack doesn't seem too bothered yet. HURLEY seems guilty. BUT - although as far as we've seen so far, Jack chooses one option (rescue) and Hurley chooses another (to go with Locke) - when they talk, Hurley says "I don't think WE did the right thing". (I think?)
So at some point Hurley and Jack have colluded in something. Along, I guess with the rest of the Oceanic 6. Whether that was on island or on the freighter, I'm not sure. But clearly along the way they had some kind of decision to make.
