I think some people have said that the losties could either have been transported to the late 19th century, i.e. Black Rock era or to the present.
In my opinion it is likely to be both. The format could be that the losties travelled to the Black Rock era first and then the present.
It could show Kate, Jack and co. in the present, but with flashbacks focusing on what happened to them in the Black Rock era? This could then incorporate Richard's and Jacob's character arc too.
What do people make of this?

i never really thought that is what happen. i always assumed that anything black rock related would be shown via flashbacks as opposed to us actually going back to that era. its interesting though, although i'm not entirely sure if i like the idea...it seems so very season 5 esque just changing the dates.

i posted something similar, saying the losties would meet jacob and richard in black rock era before getting back to th present time

It would make sense such that when the losties arrive at the present they wouldn't have to 'catch up' with what is happening after the 'death' of jacob and this 'new' lock. Hopefully by that point they'll know exactly what is happening with prior knowledge of the black rock era.
I think it was stated that it would be linear story telling after 1 third of the season, so it would make sense for 19th centure/Present time to be the two timelines.
We need to know all about Jacob, since we already know about the the Losties (Present), the Others (1950s onward) and Dharma (1970s) and 19th century would probably be the best time for Richard, Iiana and Jacob.

I have a feeling that if we do get to see the more of the Black Rock; and that's if we do, that it will be their ancestors.
We'll get flashbacks of the crew of the Black Rock, and see them going through their ordeals on the island, having no idea of who they are.
Then one day AntiJacob is looking through the ship and finds the crew manifest.
On the list are the names Ford, Austin, Shephard, Pace, whatever Ecko's last name was, and finally the name Cooper, as in Locke real last name.
Crazy Lost music hits, and the camera zooms in on AntiJacob as he thinks of his plan for long down the road.
Somehow AntiJacob gets the people he needs off the island, where they fornicate and produce the desendants that will help lead to Jacob's death.
LOST

And this last season we are going to see a huge backstory on RA so that is going to clear things up.

I know that I'm bumping up my own post here, but it's been awhile since I've read this.
The more I think of it the more I like my idea here. That MIB got Black Rock passengers off of the island, so that their family tree's go on to create our Lostie's.
Any thoughts, comments, insults???

I don't know if I really believe that this is how the black rock is entangled in the story.
Everyone gives the Black Rock a lot of significance as to be "directly" connected.
I think the only significance of the Black Rock is that this is not Jacob and MIB's first time at the card "game table". They have been doing this over and over and over again with generation and generations of people.
However, now we have dialogue that already states that. MIB is so sick of the game that he wants to flat out kill his opponent so he is not forced to play the game anymore. So there are like 100 black rocks going back as long as there is history for the island.
I'm sure that Jacob and MIB have their "Favorite players...favorite souls" and they like to play a lot of the same people over and over again in the game....

Come on UP who would insult you? I dont agree(of course)LOL but not going to insult you. I think and so do others if i am not mistaking that RA is from the BR and since Jacob made him the way he is, ageless, the Others are also people from the BR. If its true that JL beats up RA and tells everyone that he is disappointedin them, than it could be because they had sided with Jacob upon coming to the Island and was in oppsotion to him. Who the heck knows. Maybe you are right. I dont know. Does get frustrating though doesnt it? Not knowing the answers.

Could be that our cast is the Black Rock crew who were sent even farther back in the future and were searching for the island trying to get back to there time once again.
Just some ideas but some cool thought seeing our cast aboard the Black Rock as our screen shoots to Black one last time and then LOST

So you dont think there is a connection of RA to the BR? We saw him building the ship looking like the BR in the bottle. is it a distractor or did he come from there? What i find interesting is that RA doesnt age but needs to wear glasses at times. I guess this is showing his human side or that he is mortal or something but why have someone who doesnt age yet have eye problems? Maybe just an oversight. I know i mentioned this before I just find it interesting.

I very much hope we don't have yet another split timeline. My hope is that Jack, Kate, and everyone else lands back in the modern era. The 30 year time difference thing, in my opinion, got old really quick.
Having said that, I'm thinking we'll see the Black Rock again during a Richard Alpert centric episode. I think it will turn out that he was on the Black Rock and used to go by the old-fashioned name Ricardus.

Well Ort from what TPTB have said and Matthew Fox, the timelines will converge and all will be on the same timeline at a certain point of the show. When I watched this show I didnt think that these timelines were occuring at the same time. Nothing really suggested that. In fact, at the bottom of the screen it would say "30 yrs earlier" so to me its a flashback to what happened in the 70s. When they were on Ajira 316 and some flashed to 77 and some flashed to 2007, I say that occured at the same time because if you think about it, those that flashed to 77 timeline had completed everything that happened before those who flashed to 2007. For those that flashed to 2007, it was in a flash but those in 1970s yrs had passed before 2007 had arrived. I hope that makes sense. I might just be explaining it poorly.
And yes I do agree wthat we will be seeing more of the BR since I think RA is from the Rock and S6 TPTB said its going to hav a lot of a backstory on him. Should be interesting. Love to know how the ship ends up in the middle of the Island. Whether it was the smoke monster that did it or maybe as the Rock was approaching Beachboy somehow moved the Island and caused that freak accident to occur and at the same time it crashes through the statue.. I dont see it being some type of weather phenomenom. but as usual I guess we will find out how the statue neded up just being a foot and how the BR ends up in Dark Territory.

Right, I certainly did not believe that the two timelines were happening at the same time. I always pictured the events in 1977 as a flashback while we watched what was happening in the modern day.
My feeling is more that I'm tired of the separation between our group of Losties. In my opinion, for too long there's been a big separation within the 815 camp. Those at the hatch vs those not at the hatch, a split between Jack and Locke camps, those on the island and those off the island, 1977 vs 2007, etc. I'm tired of that and really want to see the remaining 815 people back together again without jumping through time or location.

i had thought of the whole decendants idea, but never considered fLoke/MIB to be the mastermind behind a century of manipulation. but i do like the idea. my only question would be why did jacob approach them when they were young? and not fLocke/MIB? i always figured jacob as the man pulling thier strings so to say. but it is an interesting theory UP. i like it.:D

"Cooper." That's fantastic!
I always thought Eko was his last name. First name, "Mister." :D

Well your patience will pay off because thats where the show is going this final season. At least from what i heard from TPTB and Fox man
