Please tell me your theories on Jacob. What is his relevance? Why did he say 'help me'? Is he someone we know?

Haven't the producers confirmed that he was in the pilot? Do you think it was the black smoke that supposedly blew up the plane thingy, or is it Jack, or Walt, or the dog?!

I think Jacob is someone like Walt, perhaps with some strong psychic abilities, but hes being held captive by the others for whatever purposes. I used to have a theory that Smokie and all the apparitions were mental projections from a powerful psychic or group of psychics that were being studied and experimented on by DHARMA.

This could still very well be true. Instead of a group, it could just be one person, but i maintain my theory. I think this person has a mind so powerful, he can reach people from all around the world through his mind. I think he selected all of the Lostees because they each would be a pivotal part of getting him free and thwarting whatever plan DHARMA or the Others had. Every charactor is clearly important in their own way, each is a piece to a greater puzzle.

I dont believe he is someone we already met, but i think he is connected to everyone in some way. I believe he controlled every Lostees life and guided them to that flight, knowing it was his only way to get saved.

now, i dont think necessarily every person on that plane was brought by Jacob, actually, i think some were brought by the Others or Dharma. Jacob knew that plane was going to be brought to the island, so he brought people he could use to help free him.

A possibility, though very unlikely is that it is Christian Sheperd. He is Jacks father, he met ana lucia and sawyer, he is also Claires father. Even though it doesnt make a lot of sense little in the lost universe ever seems too. Remember back mid season 2, everyone had theories about the hatch and the island that were disproven by what happened in season 3. Season 4 may very well do the same, but given that weve seen shots of Chris sheperd and that hurley meets him as well...i dunno, tricky one bruv tricky one

They showed a glimpse of Jacob and it looked nothing like Christian Sheperd. A lot of people did seem to think it looked like Locke though. I agree with jmar that its probably someone we haven't met yet.

I don't know how reliable it is but I heard an interview w/ the actor who plays Ben and he said the guy who plays Jacob is someone who we have seen on the show but who had no lines.

I wasn't clear if he meant it was actually Jacob or just the same actor who might have been playing another non-speaking role though.

DHARMA was studying parapsychology, so I am thinking that maybe he is just a human off the island who somehow communicates via some method a parapsycholgist would study.

That parapsychology must be why people see the dead folks too. Like someone is projecting the images

Yes i saw it on YouTube. The actor (although not actually actor, but part of the tv crew) that played Jacob was in the Pilot and helped Jack drag a person from the wreckage. Was only for a couple seconds.

So a Brachiosaurus or something is found with a collar on in the desert.... Obviously, some part of some government is reproducing the Philidelphia experement in the ocean and the plane was caught up in it and transported back in time.... They know they have to cover their tracks and use a replica plane and get dead bodies to look like the plane had crashed in the ocean and all were killed.... Easy !!!

That explains the recruiter not aging, he jumps around in time and therefor doesnt age the same way as someone who is not time traveling !

I think the black smoke represents some type of "Ripp" in the space time continum, a sort of blip in reality, either random or caused by behavior of someone on the island. I think the electromagnetic basis for the reality that they perceive is altered by the inhabitants and thus effects the time continum. The black smoke would be a good way of showing what happens when time is messed with.

i think jacob summoued hurley:eek:. and hurley is now thee one person that the others thought was lock. i dont think lock is thee one:confused:. if lock couldnt find the cabin and hurley knew it was some where else then lock doesnt know as much as he thinks. also when charley was talking 2 hurley charley said "u need 2 save them" and hurley knows that the island whants them 2 go back. i think in some way jacob used charley 2 tell hurley that he needs 2 go back. he summoued hurley once again. and i think y jacod ask lock 2 help him was b/c he knew ben was doin something wrong and he didnt like ben.

I was thinking about the smoke yesterday and the stuff on the ground that locks looks at in the last episode. This grey thing has showed up before as well - when he was in the cabin and I think we've seen it in other scenes as well. What I'm thinking is that it could be that the Smoke is not a monster, but is a human-made and controlled thingy. They (whoever is making it, possibly not the others, but someone else) put this special substance in a line on the ground. And then a chemical reaction is started which goes along the line. Just like making a line of fuel and lighting it up, but here we don't have fire - we have some other chemical reaction (plasma or something). The visible part of the reaction is black smoke , which moves very quickly (along the line) and carries a high electrical charge or heat so that it can injure/kill people. In addition, just like burning something damp makes a hiss sound, other reactions would trigger a sound that sounds like whispers. Of course, we know the whispers are real whispers, but that could be that we're hearing the sounds that the losties think they are hearing, rather than the actual?

<I was thinking about the smoke yesterday and the stuff on the ground that locks looks at in the last episode>

The first time I saw the stuff on the ground around the cabin, it made me think of the movie 'Skeleton Key', where some kind of ash/dust is laid on the ground in a line to keep evil spirits from entering a space when they intend to hurt. Something like that. So I would assume that the ash line is keeping Jacob in the hut as a kind of prison- hence why he would want to be 'saved'. Doesnt mean he's good, necessarily. (PS- I do totally think Jacob was part of the Black Rock, like Richard and the Russian guy with the eye-patch that never seems to die...)

As far as the comment about it being some sort of line that moves along quickly like a fire line, how would it be able to repeatedly smash Eko's body around when it killed him? It's definitely something more sinister, like demonic.

Didn't the creators say that the actors who portrayed Jacob as he's been presented to us so far are not the one's who will be playing him when it is revealed who his identity is. (He isn't cast yet). I saw a picture somewhere of the person who played Jacob in the best picture we have of him and it was the prop manager or something lol

I think Jacob is somehow the spirit of the island. That's how the cabin moved, how it was in one place when Ben took Locke there and then it was in a different place when Hurley saw it. When Locke heard Jacob say "Help Me" it meant that Locke is some kind of messiah figure who is meant to save the island and cleanse it- the Dharma intiative, the others, the survivors and restore it to whatever natural state it was in before. That's the significance of the broken 4 toed statue. The island is broken and needs to be fixed.

Hello, new here but I thought I'd jump in on the theorizing. I think Jacob is an oracle for the others. I think the others are organized around a religion or cult that was created by the original descendants of the island. The builders of the ruins, temple (can't wait to see that one) and 4 toed statue. I think Ben was originally chosen by Jacob to be his steward until a prophecy was fulfilled. I'm guessing the prophecy goes something along the lines of "the chosen one will be born to the island. The chosen one's protector will come to the island broken but will then be healed by the island." I think that's why the others were so adamant about getting a child born on the island and why they found the fact that Locke was healed on the island so significant. I think Aaron is the chosen one and that's why the psychic wanted Claire to raise him and why he set her up to be on the plane. Also I thing fathers or rather lack thereof are an important part although I'm not sure how. Ben kills his father, Locke has to kill his or has Sawyer do it, Jack thinks he killed his (drove him to drink to death), Aaron doesn't have a father. Anyway Jacob, being the oracle, is the metaphorical box that Ben told Locke about. He's able to tell Ben hints that enable him to get necessary things done like where to capture Lockes father. I also think Ben is resisting the idea of Aaron being the chosen one and Locke his protector. Perhaps because he doesn't want to give up his privileged position. I think he has abandonment issues.:D

I've got a much larger overarching theory involving all of this but I'll post that in a new thread when I have more time.

interesting theory.

ben does lie several times saying he was born on the island so perhaps he feels that the role of the chosen one is his.

How about when hurely was freaked out by it and he went to look through the crack? He first saw an old man and then the eyes scared the **** out of everyone and the cabin was gone? Who do the eyes belong to?
