Last night's episode of ABC's FlashForward addressed some of the theories floating around the discussion boards about the cause of the worldwide blackout. Either the show's writers have been paying attention to fan forums, or they'd already anticipated these suggestions when they put the episode together.
Two of the theories on what cause the blackout get debunked quickly during a Senate subcommittee hearing in the ep, "Gimme Some Truth." Another seems to gain traction as the episode progresses:

Interesting red but didnt think anyone in this forum attributed the B/O to Alines, drugs or China.
We have seen enough of the show to know that man was behind it. Didnt think it was possible to still think the other 3 were the root.
Also, TPTB would have anticiapted these things to come up just like in Lost. They didnt film this episode a week ago so they would have to have anticipated the things discussed.
On Lost TPTB also mentioned that they knew that the fans would be questioning time travel and so they put in the scene between Hurley and Miles but still put a twist for those fans who didnt watch all the episodes or pay attention.
In particular when Hurley asked Miles why he didnt remember it was Sayid who shot him and tricked some fan members, because we already knew tha tAlpert told Jack and Kate he wouldnt remember any of it

So are we told how long this show is going to go on for? Is it just until April 29th or whatever that date they saw or will it go on past the FF vision?

I read that it would take 3 seasons to tell the story.

TPTB have stated that they can do it in as little as 3 seasons or go much farther.
I believe the april 29th episode will be about 4/5 or 3/4 of the way through the first season. I could be wrong though
