Having read multiple theories the last few months I have thought of something (please forgive me if someone beat me to it)
What if Ben has been let in on the whole MIB/Jacob thing and Jacob instructed Ben to NOT let Richard or anyone know that they had talked.
First we see that Ben would be in on Jacob's "death" and it would all be a plan to beat/prove wrong MIB
I mean think about it, Ben knows WAY more than he lets on. He always has a plan - always.
What do you guys and gals think?

I think Ben was deceived by Nemesis to kill Jacob. Thats why iLocke had to explain why he should want to kill Jacob. All the things that happened to Ben, I believe was caused by Nemesis.

I have to admit that did cross my mind. I think we are going to find out that Ben knows a whole lot more than we are being lead to believe.:)

That's pretty good theroy. Ben has been to the temple and the most impotant thing about the island is children. I am almost sure that jacob is not dead. It could be a obi won move when vader strikes him down he becomes more powerful. It would be interesting to play with this idea.

no, i think that would be a bad way to counter the incredible arc of ben's character. his transformation from the all knowing, all controlling leader to "what about me?" ben is pretty awesome.

i agree.. i love the lying, scheming ben but his likeness to original locke was pretty interesting? the urge to get acknowledged...the "what about me" reminded me a lot of needy locke. and the fake locke being the manipulator...roles reversed (although it's not original locke, but nevertheless).
although the scene with sun on the beach made me suspicious..."I lied. That's what I do"..the emphasis. but maybe it's only a red herring. or the emphasis was because of his desperation.
anyway. i think ben is being played. it reminds me of greek tragedy.
but i would like to be wrong. i just love "manipulative ben"s genius, deadpan delivery and it would be brilliant if i get to see it again.

Over the last four weeks I have re-watched seasons 1-4 and it still looks to me like Ben is in on it. If I'm wrong so be it, but it sure looks like it especially with the whole "Henry Gale" scheme in season 3 and the "surrendering" to Keamy at the Orchid station.
Less than 7 days now as I start on Season 5...

They confirmed tonight in the enhanced version of The Incident that Ben had been manipulated by fake Locke to kill Jacob, just as he had manipulated so many others. I think that means he wasn't in on it the whole time but it was a good theory none the less. That Ben is a slippery character!! :)

I think Ben will not be able to cope with what he has done. His ego will get the best of him just as it has already. He will not understand why this has happen to him. He will eventually kill himself. The question is...How? For the sake of the island or a broken mentality. I guess we’ll see, but its inevitable that it will happen.

I agree with you too, rasslin; Ben, the Man with the Plan, has got to be in on it. He made mention of "all our plans" in season 5. Who knows how far those designs extend? Also, there's that deal with the Beechcraft:
SEASON 3
BEN: Who left [The Pearl entrance] open?
JULIET: Tom was down here a couple of days ago.
BEN: Have him cover it up with the plane. [--the Beechcraft]
SEASON 5
FAKE LOCKE: Let's keep moving. We're almost to the plane.
BEN: What plane?
FAKE LOCKE: It’s a Beechcraft, used to smuggle heroin.
Could be a writing mistake, but then, Ben might have pretended not to know about the plane as part of some working plan. *shrug*

Those damn pop-ups! The bane of us all. :D Hopefully they just repeat what they want us to believe. IDK.
Not only do I think that Ben may be in on it, it's obvious that Jacob knew what was coming as well - as shown by the guitar case given to Hurley. Not sure if anyone else picked up on that/pointed it out here....
