I think that John Locke was dead, but was revived upon coming back. Yes, Ilana proved that wrong but let me explain. Maybe John was revived but his subconcousness was imprisoned by smoke, possibly one of its abilities. John appeared dead, and Nemesis copied the body. Casting for season 6 states that Helen, Johns former boss Randy Nations, and Boone would be returning for a little bit. I believe that one episode will show Johns subconciousness battle with trials of his past, such as his life changing girlfriend, his mean boss, and his "disciple" of sorts, that he led to death. He will have to battle these trials and will eventually break free. John Locke can't be dead a whole season before its over, I sometimes believe that the show is about him.

You can feel a war is coming for the last season with Charles W.

I wonder if Christian was replicated like Locke was. Christian takes his own body out of the coffin. I always wondered why Christians body was gone. Maybe the corpse is still somewhere on the island? Still curious why Christians shoes were so important.

sorry if this reply wasn't on topic lol.

I went back and watched the pilot episodes. One to find Jacob, he's supposed to be there right at the beginning...with no words. Two to watch Locke. I beginning to think MIB's plan was to portray himself in "history" as Jacob to the 815 folks and connect them to the flight and use Locke as a key. Locke's been dead the whole time. What better way to get "everyone" to believe something than to make a lowly person a miraculous person. Locke can't walk....CRASH....Locke can walk. They all saw him on the plane in the wheel chair. Then the wheel chair is on the island and Locke is near it. But, what if he's really in the ocean dead and MIB became Locke to bring about his plan to end Jacob's life. The show/story is about where the mind goes and how we react to perceived reality. Then as in life, only a CON-MAN can catch another CON-MAN. Maybe the last man standing is our newly crowned Head of Security...James. James defeats MIB and is the last man standing. MIB=Locke MIB=fake Jacob MIB=Christian MIB=Richard Alpert (never ages)

One last thought, go back to the plane first episode...is the flight attendant the same person in 1957 that is shown admiring Locke as the "leader" while pitching the tent (No pun intended)

Ok, I lied...I find it hilarious that LOST final season begins on GROUND HOG'S DAY. TO FUNNY.

What do you mean you went back to "find Jacob" in the pilot episode? And also remember the flight attendant is one of the ones captured by the Others and re-introduced into their society. The island was just going from time warp to time warp so thats why she's seen in 1957. But I'm sure you already knew that haha :p

Perhaps, I mis-remembered the part about the flight attendant. But, from other theories and listening to the "OFFICIAL LOST PODCAST" Jacob is supposed to be in the pilot episode(first episode, not a "pilot" episode about a pilot) without a speaking part. I think I found him watching all the events near the fuselage...at the edge of the beach. Could be wrong though,

I belive that was another time line Locke, it means nothing more than they have to replace him in another time line. so things blance out. they want to keep locke, but the Gods needed the other locke there to make the switch..

Just as they came in close contract with the other time line losties, there are serveral copies...

The show is really about peanut butter,
and educating people on the ever growing peanut allergy epidemic.

i sometimes feel that john is a major part of the story but lately it does just seem as if hes a pawn/easy con.

i disagree with people thinking jack is a main factor in the whole story as he was originally supposed to be killed off in the first few episodes so its a big step to take to put him in as a major influence after the fact.

Why not?

Would you consider Ben a huge factor in the story?

he was supposed to die as well after a few episodes and look at him now.

The script was changed and Jack was kept as a regular.

Although I dont think Locke is really anything special i think he was the mouthpiece Darlton used to show us that jack is going to be important otherwise locke wouldnt have focused in on him when telling him he wasnt supposed to leave and all that

in my own opinion i dont really think any of them are a big factor and where all just pawns in a big game.

Maybe. But the most significant line to me is

"You had no idea what I had to do to get here"

Looking back at season 1, I think BOTH Jack and John are not what they initially appear to be.....Too many odd things about BOTH of them in Season 1. There is more there than meets the eye, regarding these two specifically, from the very beginning.

Of course, I could be totally wrong, lol! :)

Well, My theory was basically diproven. John seems to be dead.
