I've always been confused about the Hanso Corporation since I never did those games/treasure hunt things that went on. This is what I know about them, please feel free to correct me and add because I'm quite curious:

- They are a corporation founded by Alvar Hanso that owns Oceanic Airlines and the Dharma Initiative.
- The founder, Alvar Hanso, is a descendent of the Black Rock's captain
- Alvar Hanso started the Dharma Initiative in order to push back the date of the end of humanity as predicted by the Valenzetti Equation (which is the numbers, if I'm not mistaken)
- The Hanso Corporation is also involved with the latest batch of visitors to the island?

Can someone who is more knowledgable about this matter enlighten us?

The Hanso Foundation is most definitely tied to DHARMA, it is true Hanso bought up Oceanic but not until after the fallout from the 815 crash. Once OA closed doors Hanso swooped in and bought them out but if I understand correctly they now fly as Hanso Air. Most of the info about them comes from Lost Experience an online game, which apparently revealed the Valenzetti stuff you mentioned. (I never played but the best info I could find about the Hanso comes from)

According to this information Mr. Hanso lost control of the foundation for some time so your guess is as good as mine about the true nature and motivations of the foundation. I can't confirm the Black Rock part or necessarily the connection to the freighter (but it seems likely).

Thanks for the info. So, correct me if I'm wrong, the Hanso Corporation and/or Alvar Hanso has only been mentioned once in the show so far? I'm referring to the first Dharma trainindg video we saw that showed his silouette in the window and said that the research was made possible because of him, or something like that. Is this correct?

Rain, you're correct that Hanso was mentioned as the financier of DHARMA during (I believe) the SWAN Orientation Film. From the link I posted before it says there was a second mention, but it's really quite silly because it's mentioned in Korean by Sun's father, but there is no subtitle. So if like me you are not fluent in Korean, it probably didn't mean anything.
