Good question!:)
Maybe it was to see if he was a descendant of the slaves on the Black Rock. Although they probably could have found that out with Walt's blood, which I am sure they took.
IDK, that is a really good question!:D
OOoooh, maybe to see if he is really Walt's father, wouldn't that be an interesting twist if Michael wasn't Walt's biological father? what am I saying, there are too many twists already, my bad! Never mind, LOL

Yea I like to know too. But they also took a sample of Jack and Kates blood and i think the ytook a sample of Sawyrer's as well. We saw Kate and jack pull off "band-aids" after getting kidnapped by the Others. I just dont recall if Sawyer did as well. most likely he did.

Who knows what they were checking for. Maybe they werent checking Michaels relationship to Walt's.

If they were able to find out Sawyer killed that guy in Australia and everythign else i nthe files I would imagine they would know Walts biological father and wouldnt need to test MD for that.

To me, blood tests would only give a clue about bloodlines, like perhaps the whole Shepard thing, but it is obvious with the naked eye that Walt and Michael were not of that line.

I was always confused as to why they were doing ANY of the crazy "experiments" and "tests" they were subjecting the Losties to at ALL. They weren't Dharma, and I assume they were making use of Dharma materials/supplies, including lab equip. Richard never needed those measures to find the next "special/chosen one" (with the exception of the objects on the table test for young Locke), and if you are a believer as I am that the Others are peaceable and not the bad guys, then why does it appear they did those weirdo things to them for the pure pleasure of tormenting them? As much as I have grown to love Ben, I review those first Others episodes and gasp!

Or to see if they were infected?

The Others took blood from everyone they could, including out losties, if you recall. I always had a suspicioun that Bea Klugh was the mother of Susan Lloyd, Walt's mother, for some reason. I don't know if we'll ever find out the real reason though. We may just have to chaulk it up to just something they did.

Maybe they were checking for malaria or othre viruses/sickensses spread by bugs like mosquitos. JK

It could just be the usual testing/experiments they were doing on all those they came into contact with. It could just be they wre making sure they were protecting themselves form something possibly.

Who knows. I am guessing it will be one of those things not addressed ths final season

Yea I know that (it's my type) but why would the others be looking for it?

I agree with Losttime, I don't think we'll ever find out why. Just like why Libby was in Santa Rosa, we'll never know!

I guess I should I should have made it a little clearer I was not serious. My humor gets overlooked when not in person. My bad Wiley. I was just giving silly reasons why they were checking his blood type

I think its just to tease you at the end of the episode with Dave to make you think that the island was all in Hurleys head, but in later episode with Desmonds flash back I looks to me that she went nuts after her husbands death. Or at least that's what I think. When she speaks to Desmond in the coffee shop and they talk about doing it for love, she seems to drift off a moment and I felt that that was it about libby.

I agree. But does anyone know if the sickness is even real?

I honestly dont think there really was an actual sickness. I am thinking the Quarantine sign was to keep the recruits contained in the stations and prevent them from going out and exploring the Island and either encountering a Hostile or Smokey.

Especially in the Swan Station where pushing the button was key to the survival of the Island.

I could be wrong but I dont think the blood test done on them was nothing more than just mind games or if theywere checking for something it wasnt for a life threatening sickness.

I say this because the Losties were on the Island for some time prior to being tested so if they were infected with something it will have spread throughout the Island or anyone they came in contact with.

TPTB might have done this in case they wanted to add more to the storyline. It may also be something that they just figured wasnt going to be that important to the over all story and dropped it to focus on other things.

Just guesses. I would like to know though what was the purpose of the blood draws, if any

I think the Others drew blood from Michael because they were trying to determine where Walt's "abilities" came from. We've seen through flashbacks that Walt seemed to have some sort of power before coming to the island. We've also seen what he is capable of on the island.

Once the Others took Walt I'm assuming they not only tested to see the extent of his capabilities, but where they came from. Testing Walt's biological father would be a good place to look.

That is possible but they also took a sample of Kate's, Jacks and I think Sawyer's blood as well.

I dont think the Others were checknig for Walts true relationship with Michael.

Also with their little folders on all the Losties I am surprised they would need to do blood sampling to check Michaels relationship with Walt. hey knew quite a bit from those folders and Michael/Walts relationship would most likely be in there.

If you are thinking about when the Others took Jack, Kate and Sawyer at the end of season 2/beginning of season 3, I don't think blood was taken. I think the bandages on their arms were from the sedatives the Others gave them so they could be transported to the other island.

Yes, the folders would give the Others background information on Walt and Michael's relationship but it wouldn't explain how or why Walt seemingly has abilities, hence the Others performing tests on Walt. Plus I don't think the Others weren't concerned with Michael and Walt's relationship, only with what Walt could do.
