When Miles tells Kate what he knows about her and says that she would be better stayin (if I remember correctly) doesnt he say something like you have nothing to go back for, thats if you survived the crash.
Now I know they arent dead but that line has stuck with me, can anyone clear up if I picked it up wrong or he did say that?

i thought he was telling kate that she might not want go back based on her legal problems. he 'suggested' she could have died in the crash, and i had not thought about that before, but i think that's the first time anyone has hinted there would be a cover-up.

He said "if I were you I'd stay right here on the island, who knows maybe you didn't survive the crash".

see at first I thought maybe he was suggesting that she would be detter off dead (to the real world anyway) because of her problems, but im starting to think there was more to it.

There is a huge cover up and it's a major story line. I think that the airline isn't covering it up, but maybe an outside organization, like Penny's Fathers company. That is why the girl who first parachuted on the island (I foget her name) had a picture of Penny and Desmond.

I agree that there is a cover-up, because in the future, the 'oceanic 6' aren't really allowed to discuss what really happened when they crashed.

I dont think its that they arent allowed as such, it feels more to me like theyve agreed not to for their own safety maybe.

No I definately think they are not allowed to talk, because in flashforward, hurley said Jack came to see him only to see if was going to tell, because he was going kinda crazy.

I believe that he said that, but Miles is probrably trying to get more money.
Ilnino, you survived this crash, but only a couple of people know, so if you give me some money, I'll say that you were died, and no one would ever know.....

heavensprincess if this is what Miles said then it strikes me this way.

He said "if I were you I'd stay right here on the island, who knows maybe you didn't survive the crash".

Maybe he is inferring to Kate that they really did not survive the crash and in the real world are actually dead. He should know what dead is. So when they do come back they are essentially "zombies" for lack of a better term, which would tie in to my question about why in the airport scene their skin complexion looks weird. A reach I know but that statement catches my attention.

I kinda took it that they are there to bring home a certain group of people and like he said to Ben he can always tell his boss she is dead too. Not sure if I explained my thoughts clearly.

I understand but I think they are only there for Ben. Everyone else doesn't matter. They could care less if they are rescued or not as long as they bring Ben home.

It's pretty clear that he was suggesting to Kate that she remain on the island and have anyone who leaves claim that she merely died in the crash. I don't think what he said had anything to do with the fact that there may be alternate realities or that they may all really be dead. It is obvious that there is already or will be a cover up regarding the crash, but this isn't want Miles is talking about in this situation.

You're probably right as rain but it makes me wonder. See what I did there? I made a punny.

i think he was hinting to her about the dead thing! you know, people need never know you survived....

I was under the impression that the creators have rejected the possibility that the crash survivors are in fact dead or in some kind of after-life state? They've also said that "once you're dead on the island you're dead", so wouldn't these two statements mean kind of discredit this theory?

I hear ya rain but they are not dead on the island. They are dead in real life.

I think Kate is crazy not to take his advice! I'd really love to know why she wanted to get back! So weird! And how Miles wanted $3.2 million!
