Looked up Ben's name. It means son of the right (hand) or son of the South. He was the second son of Jacob and Rachel whose favorite child he was after Joseph.Benjamin was the ancestor of one of the 12 tribes of Israel ,. the one from whom King Solomon(who built the temple) and St. Paul were descended.Jacob is also from the Greek. It may mean "god protects " or "he was mistaken".He was the grandson of Abraham , a son of Isaac, the one who was preferred over Esau his brother, the father of the twelve patriarchs who gave his name (which was also Israel) to the chosen people.FYI Is temple building in Ben's blood?

I believe that the writers definetly think every single detail through!

Thanks! I hadn't seen that before but I was on a roll and thought someone might want to know. I found more on Jacob which means 'heel grabber'. He was the last twin being born and was grabbing his brother's heel as he came out. Jacob embodies the settler farmer, THE TRICKSTER, the man of gallantry, the successful emigre' and herder, THE PENITENT BROTHER,and THE BENEVOLENT FATHER. The arrangement of the traditions surrounding Jacob have a MIRRORLIKE pattern. Jacob is favored by God although he engages in DECEPTION. Could there be a Hebrew student or scholar helping to write this show?

Maybe so. Never gave the name theory much thought, but I don't believe they just pulled the characters names out their hats. While you at it, why don't you check other character names.

Thats why LOST has the best writing team on TV hands down. Some serious longterm thinking and puzzle piecing goes on, when most other writers take the easy route of here's our characters, then here's the crisis, followed by the quick 45 minute solution and all is solved. How boring is that!!! I have never had to think so much about a TV show in my life!!! LOST Rocks!!!

How long does it take these guys to write an episode? Every single thing has a significance, it's mad! I love all the biblical references I must say, it makes you want to read the bible more!
