The first episode of season four when Naomi is looking at her phone it says that it is connecting. If you look at the sonar the circles ( the small one ) is basically around California. That is interesting. They make a piont to show that.

If this is true than it makes the location of the freighter very interesting.

But was she talking to the freighter every time she used the phone? That's the question I have. It is a "Satellite Phone" after all, and is not ship to shore comunication. She very well could have been making a call to California. I still don't understand why Sayid or Jack has not tried to use it to contact other people on the planet besides the ship. If they don't trust these people, why not try to get other people involved?

This is the screen shot of the phone showing California as the center of the phones search.

I think it's just a slapped together graphic to go on the prop phone they use for the show. I have to believe that or I very well could go cross eyed.

They do everything for a reason!

I agree. We LOST fans need to get a grip sometimes.

Not everything. This is one of those deals where an IPhone graphic for example would have created licensing issues. It's just a simple TV prop, no more, no less.

You honestly think they just happened to show the phone and it just happened to be coming from California? Hmmm, do you think maybe they got farther on their route than they thought? Or could it mean the home base isn't on a freighter.... or maybe the signal bounces?

yeah sometimes we do see things that arent actually there - a bit like being on the island lol!

I agree there are plenty of things without meaning but I feel that this isn't one of them.

What do you mean by that?

this popped into my head when talking to lostfreak about it on another thread but it seems more appropriate to add it here.

the location of the freighter they told us, the supposed sat phone location and the distance the payload came from - none of these match up at all?

No, I just want to post things and talk them out without feeling shut down. I don't let other people bother me.

aww i dont think anyone would make you feel shut down - i hope i havent. i just like a good debate over things and ask a lotta questions lol!

Yea, I don't think this is something that the show would just "let slide" as a prop. That definitely has some meaning behind it.

Plus, I remember reading that the phone doesn't actually exist in the real world and is just a prop. And what they did was add the graphic to the phone later during production. So if they're adding this graphic later - that's not just some random mistake.

i'll be entirely honest but whenever they see the phone i dont really give it too much thought - i always just thought to myself, there is the sat phone with its blooperly ligts and lines doing its thing. probably because its not a piece of technology i am familiar with. not dissing anyones theory or thoughts, just having a different opinion.

Here's an article about it! Article (http://www.livescience.com/technology/080220-lost-phones.html)

3rd to last paragraph:

"Oh well—it is fiction, after all. ABC was not able to supply any out-takes of the phone's screen, because, apparently, it's a computer-generated special effect, indicated the LOST spokesman."

And I'm sure others, including myself, thought the same exact thing. Which makes it very easy for all of us to miss this.

Well then this seals it for me. They could have put any image they wanted to on there and they chose L.A. And this just so happens to be where all or most of the O6 end up after the rescue.

Sorry LostFreak, I think you are over-analyzing this one. The graphic on the phone is a representation of all the continents of the planet. I simply interpret it as a "global positioning system" logo.

She could have, of course, been calling someone in California (not the freighter)

And I'm thinking that someone was Abaddon (sp?)

bunnydixon

say it is there for a reason and she WAS calling someone not on the freighter - that circles covers a lot of area (and once again forgive my crappy geography) so could it be portland oregon (not maine as pointed out to me lol!) where a lotta things related to the island seem to originate?

LostFreak21

I figured it had some merit to it. It could open a whole new can of worms!

the writers used these specific phones for a reason. currently available sat phones look like souped up cell phones, and none seem to have anything like a touch screen on them. so, are the sat phones from the future? if so, the freighter people are from the future.

we have always seen her talk on the phone though and it has been to minkowski and regina who i believe are on the freighter. she may have called someone else in secret but then we would not have seen the screen of the phone or it would have been obvious as that would have been a stand alone scene.
