I was looking in Desi's thread about "forbidden island" and seen how there were similar plot lines to LOST. Looking for more info on that show I came across an article about one of the "creators" of LOST who hasn't had any participation, not by his choice, in the show since before the pilot was even shot. I thought it was a good read, sorry if its been posted before...

I had never known about, let alone read that before... so, thanks for that!

First, I loved the idea of sending the fish bowl, and the card saying "hire the smaller fish, we take up less room and are easier to care for!" :D
It would definitely make me remember this person. Although, I prefer a more confident approach.

I think he was, lucky to win the arbit. But him having to sit with Damon at the Emmy's, and how nobody knew him, made me feel really bad for him.

The one nice surprize in the script was when the kid (Alex) says "look, there's more people, in the water swimming."
... and they were actually dead bodies, floating.

oh yes. this is fairly open stuff. in fact in that three part article with bad robot crew that i posted they openly reference it. And, there is that other lawsuit pending now about the 1977 script that ABC had that is apparently exactly like lost. read here: http://www.avclub.com/articles/the-lost-lawsuit-is-someones-constant,30416/

thats what makes forbidden island even more mysteries...how many times can lost have been ripped off from how many people???;)
i kid. i think it just means that its probably original in its own right. i am sure the idea of plane crash, desert island was floating around for a while. just like, you know, emo vampires, and various ideas came out of it.

forbidden island is weird though. i want to see the pilot.

Thanks for both the links Pung and Rach! Very interesting indeed! I feel bad for the Lieber guy from Pung's link and look forward to checking out the pilot too. The lawsuit in your link seems REALLY far fetched, doesn't it Rach? I mean, those are pretty common themes, right?

I thing everything is a remake these days, it probably comes down to not what you remake, but how well you do remake it. I mean think about it, Northern exposure was a remake of Green Acres, The Rose is a remake of Rocky Horror Picture Show. Aren't there some new things about Josie and the pussycats?? Didn't they start out as a remake of The Archies?
the prisoner was remade, but not well, I have a 6 year old and the cartoons even steal from each other. Maybe I am crazy (well you all know I am crazy) but I think I may be on to something here, anybody get what I am sayin?

yes, totally. but the lengths the guy went to in order to continue this lawsuit is pretty crazy. when he originally filed they countered by saying the idea did not belong to him because he worked for another network at the time and everything he created while working there belonged to them as a matter of law. so, the guy ran off and sued the old network to win his rights back which took several years (and was in no way cheap under any stretch of the imagination), and then re-filed this lawsuit again in 07, i think. so, he is determined. seriously determined and clearly spending a ton of money in legal fees. why?? he must think he has enough for some sort of serious settlement. idk. its very odd to me. its APPEARS like such a long shot. but who knows?

I just can't imagine how those vague similarities would pay out but something has to be giving him the confidence to pour so much time and money into it. Seems strange to me but people are capable of some very odd behaviors!
