View Full Version : Did Jacob 'Save' Ben Causing the Loophole?

I've looking for other threads on this subject, so maybe you can point me to them....
Here is my question...
After Sayid shoots young Ben, Kate and Sawyer bring him to Richard Alpert, who in turn brings him into the Temple. I remember Richard Alpert asking them if they were sure that they wanted him to be saved because he "would never be the same again."
I just had a thought that maybe Jacob saved young Ben from dying, but then Ben ends up killing Jacob later.....is that what created the loophole? It seems more likely that something with Locke created the loophole, but maybe the writers are just trying to make it seem more obvious so when we find out that this was all about Ben somehow, we will be shocked....or not.
If this has been discussed elsewhere, let me know where I couldn't find anything from searching.
Happy New Year to all.

I would think the loop hole had more to do with John Locke. For some reason MIB could not kill Jacob himself...otherwise he just would....he said himself he wanted to "badly". MIB set up JL....who was easy to con. He made JL think he was special and Richard and Ben think the same time. JL became the MIB's star pawn in the game. The situation was set up for Ben's daughter to die. Remember Ben said "he changed the rules". Now Ben was talking about Widmore but I feel Widmore and MIB are on the same side. With all pieces in place and JL a corpse the second time he comes to the island, MIB was able to use JL's form to trick Ben and Richard....they still think he is special. MIB/smokie uses Ben's dead daughter's form to order Ben to do everything JL tells him to do. Of course Ben is going to do this as it is part of his judgment and Alex is the wound on his heart. Richard takes JL (really MIB) to Jacob because he thinks he is special. JL orders Ben to kill Jacob and Ben does because he was ordered to do everything JL says. Therefore, MIB was able to locate Jacob and get someone other than himself to kill him. Which is the loop hole.

I think the whole loophole issue was created by the compass and its time loop. It was all created by MIB. I do believe that when Ben was shot it may have split time though.

I think the rule the loophole is avoiding is that MIB could not kill Jacob directly. So the loophole is MIB becoming John Locke so he could influence someone to kill Jacob. I think Ben just becomes a pawn.

I dont think Jacob saved ben I think the island saved him. I dont think ben or richard ever saw jacob (if richard did he hasnt seen him in a long time). I also dont think ben (i.e. all modern others) have been underneath the temple until last season

Wondering if the temple will be a huge 'holy hell!' type moment when it is (hopefully) revealed to us this season. So far we have only seen the Wall that surrounds it for protection.
Maybe it's a Walmart?
