Ok, so Juliet gets picked up in or near Portland, OR and ends up on the island which is somewhere in the south Pacific.

How?

I mean, I don't know how fast submarines travel, but I would think that it would at least take a few days to go that far. But, she was drugged.. how would she stay asleep for days and then wake up fine? So, she must not have been gone for a few days.

Anyone have any ideas? Or did something similar happen that I'm forgetting about? Or does this go along with any theories?

I would just assume that they just kept pumping her full of drugs.

But she woke up and then just walked outside and was fine.. Wouldn't you think that after being drugged for days, you'd feel like crap when you woke up? You'd have to pee, eat something.. you'd be totally dehydrated..

Obviously these are magical Lost drugs... ;-) More realistically, I think the writers just didn't want to bore us with minutaie--for which I can only thank them!

lets see how would they get from portland to the south pacific?, hmmmmmm go south and a little west? and the drugs were probably anestethics (anestesia) depending on the dosage and time given, when on these drugs your heart beats so slow that under this drug 6 days can equal a typical day of not being on these drugs. so its quite simple, she drank it though so i suspect it was another form of anestesia, probly a more complex compound with opium

this is one of those questions that have no relation to the story itself, although it may be "fishy" its one of those questions that could have a million answers, might want to let this one go : (

The tough part about Lost is figuring out where to draw the line between what could actually be clues about what is going on and what are just liberties being taken with reality because after all, it is just a TV show. Knowing that there is all kinds of wierd stuff going on, we're apt to take any wierd occurrence as a clue, but we don't realize that in every single TV show and every movie we've ever seen there are a ton of unexplainable and unrealistic things going on that are simply there because TV shows and movies would be boring if they were too realistic. I think this is an example of the latter, I'm sure they decided that adding this interesting story line would be more important than maintaining 100% realism. Part of enjoying art is participating in the "suspension of disbelief", and I think this is just a case of that.

I don't know.. I still think it has importance.. Especially with all the time things going on, and the Orchid. I find it strange that with all the speculation about little things that nobody really talks about this.

Based on 30 seconds of research, it looks like subs can go around 46 mph. I am sure Portland is 5597 miles from Fiji which I guess is close to the island, so that seems to work out to just about 5 days. I didn't think about it but that is a weird thing to digest.

I agree that it probably has no real relevence to the story.

However, what is it that you are theorizing, that they didn't really travel the whole way in the sub? Liek they flew from portland to Fiji and took the sub the rest of the way? That is more realistic.

that makes sense as they did meet her at an airport.

whos to say that she went from Portland to the island ? She could have been druged, flown to the somewhere close to the island, moved to the sub. and then went to the island....just a thought.....

Juliet was picked up in Portland- I posted this on the season 4 posts Naomi's phone showed the signal to be coming from somewhere around California. Some people don't think this means anything. Does one think that Lost would put Cal. on there by accident? NOT!

i am not sure what the sat phone and where they are calling has to do with how juliet got to the island? maybe i am being stupid! i always thought portland was near maine(thanks to stephen king lol)?

Everything may mean something on this show. There's been a lot of speculation about how they survived the plane crash at all. It's like this question about Juliet which you would naturally wonder about. It reminds me of a writers dictum about the story-it only has to be possible;it doesn't have to be probable. The writers are pushing the envelope, but it makes this show sooo good.

North of California. I am not saying- oh I am so right about the phone- what I am saying is that it is just kinda a weird slip up if it doesn't have anything to do with it. Maybe the Island isn't so far from the U.S.A. that is why they can use a sub to go back and forth.

There is a Portland, Maine as well a Portland, Oregon. There's no copyright on city names. Just look up Springfield, Any state.

i never thought that rickety looking sub could travel 500 miles let alone 5,000. i expect juliet traveled the same way richard, ben and ethan did....time/space portals, worm holes, etc...

Lets see, Juliete takes/drinks the juice while at an airport. then she passes out. Maybe, and I know I may be stretching here a little, but maybe they put her on a plane and they flew her to a nearby island and then took the sub to Othersville.

If they had a private jet, it could cover the 3000 or so miles to the nearby island in about 6 hours. Then a short trip, maybe an hour tops to Othersville.

It would only make sence that that's how they transported her to Ben's little slice of paradice that we call Lost.

Thank you! It seemed like I was the only one thinking something strange was going on with the sub.

It's driving me nuts because I have to sort through 50 threads, mostly about nothing "Kate's baby is Aaron!" "Kate's baby is Eric!" "Charlies alive!" "Naomi's Alive!" etc etc, and when I bring up something that seems like it's actually possible it's connected to the weirdness of the island, it gets blown off. Ack..

Hey Tuesday, it does seem like there are a lot of silly threads about different things.

I am not to sure about time travel or even worm holes, but it does seem a little odd that they drugged Julietet before transporting her to the island. They claimed it was because it was a "bumpy ride" and it was to help her relax for the trip.

It all just seems a little fishy.

bunnydixon
02-28-2008, 06:26 PM
i always took the bumpy ride to be some kind of time travelling thing lol! like they were taking her in the tardis or something lol!

There are drugs you can inject that will keep you hydrated, there are also nutrients and minerals you can inject into someones system to keep them so they wont die from starvation, and to solve the last one a cathiter.

bunnydixon
02-28-2008, 07:06 PM
i am sure she would know if she had a catheter insterted lol!

but she does okay for a drugged gal in heels on a sub!

02-28-2008, 07:18 PM
lol. yeah i dont think they would go as far as to insert a catheter without her permission. plus if they did that im sure she would know somehow.
