View Full Version : Public Apology to Lissa
Lost Down Under

I would like to say sorry to Lissa for giving people the impression that I had been told off by her in a hostile or nasty way. I didn't mean for it to appear that way, but obviously it was by LM and, in hindsight, I can see why. My choice of words (told off) were wrong. As she stated she told me in a gentle way that some words I had used on a different thread were unacceptable (which they were) and would I please remove them.
Sorry Lissa.

Huh? Really? Well I'm out of the loop on this one, as I have no idea what you're talking about. However, I would like to be the first to applaud you for taking responsibility for your posts and words, and reaching out to a fellow member. Bravo LDU.

Oh geez, LDU that isn't necessary but I appreciate your gesture just the same. We worked it out in PM and I'm not worried or offended at all. I think you fell victim to the same confusion as a few others here about the Sophmores Club and no one blames you, least of all me. I PM'd you about it and you edited your post right away. No big deal. You've always been a sweetheart and I promise you that I have no issue with you at all. Peace, my sister! Now get back to loving those babies and eating your carrots. :D

So the message you're trying to get out there is that....
Yes Virginia; there is a Santa Claus.
:)
I apologize for that one, I debated posting it but it was so corny that I couldn't resist.

I think its because, and correct me if I'm wrong UP, DZ still puts drinks, cookies and carrots out for Santa and his reindeer, because "yes, there is a Santa Claus" and Dz is from "Virginia" therefore Yes, Virginia there is a Santa Claus".

Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus is a response to a letter that a little girl wrote the newspaper back in 1897. It's since become the most re-published editorial in history. Here's a copy of the original letter.
Maybe I should be made a mod, I think I'm losing my comedic luster.
Can somebody that know's the "Yes Virginia" story please stop by and tell me that it was an alright joke.
I'm not saying it's great, but there's something in there....right?
Dear Editor—
I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says, “If you see it in The Sun, it’s so.” Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus?
Virginia O’Hanlon
Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men’s or children’s, are little. In this great universe of ours, man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus! It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.
Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies. You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if you did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that’s no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.
You tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived could tear apart. Only faith, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.
No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives and lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay 10 times 10,000 years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

Is it possible to get a clear idea of exactly what the social groups are? And is it possible to make certain social groups "invite only" type groups or something like that?
The way I always saw social groups, and this is obviously incorrect, is that they act almost like mass private messages. In other words, in order to view messages within a social group, you had to join it. If it was possible to make the groups this way, I would be all for it.
There are many of us who simply share a twisted / juvenile / whatever you want to call it sense of humor, and it's all in good fun. Plus, by creating a social group that allows us to do just that, we can keep that kind of stuff out of the forums completely and keep it in a private group where only those who want to join in can see it.
Understandably the rules of the forum will still apply to the social groups. However, I do not believe that anything has been posted to this certain group (that I have seen) that is all that terrible to begin with.

In 1897 they did. How do you think so many people read the newspaper back then?
Newspaper fairies.
