if the island has some kind of time manipulation abilities upon it, could it be possible that the plane did crash(near the island's physical location) and everyone did die, but upon ben discovering the planes manifest and doing research on every person that was on the flight, he finds that there were people on it that he could benefit from. a surgeon, pregnant woman, etc..and he sets everything up after going back to moments before the incident to make the plane crash on the island instead of the ocean. after all, he didn't seem very surprise when the plane did go down during book club, and he was quick with a plan...this is an early theory. it needs work...

I don't know how he would have orchestrated that though.

We found out the reason the plane went down was because Desmond failed to push the button in the hatch on time, so the electromagnetic field brought the plane down. And Ben didn't know Desmond was pushing the button because the others were surprised to find out he had a boat.

don't you find it odd that desmond just happened to show up, out of nowhere? remember, he met jack before all the island **** happened, and said, see you in the next life. maybe desmond was planted there by ben, after the crash already happened. who ever desmond is, his memory and perception of it is f****d up. a 'side effect' from all the time traveling perhaps?

i think they are hinting strongly that desmond brought the plane down as he failed to press the button in time as he had followed kelvin out and after an altercation he left an unconscious/dead kelvin on the rocks to get back to the hatch. now if there is some way that ben could have orchestrated that it would fall into place. however, it has never really been confirmed 100% that this IS what caused the plane to crash.

Anything is possible especially if Ben can time travel and change the future so that it changes the past. I read on one thread that if you change the future then there will be a 'course correction' like some one who was supposed to die doesn't and then, voila! someone else has to die to make room for the change.Very confusing.

maybe it's just me, but previews of tonight's ep shows clearly that desmond is not where he thought he should have been. maybe he falls out of the chopper due to the storm and ends up elsewhere/another time line?

I agree the plane went down due to the button not being pushed. In tonights episode, i believe desmond does wake up somewhere else in time! Should be Great!
