This has been going on, obviously, a long time between Jacob and MIB. They come, they fight....
So what's their point of all of this? Is it just the control of the Island? Is it more than that? Do you think the Island controls more then just the Island's space? Jacob, does he bring everyone to the Island to make his perfect world? Widemore is he one of Jacob's findings? Do you think Ben will regret killing Jacob?

Well since the purpose of the was to save the world I'd say there is a good chance that the Island infliences a lot more than just the island.

I did. But it's not there... wtf?
Ok, 'short version:'
There definitely seems to be a 'larger picture' with these two.
And they seem to have some powerful 'talents.'
Are they limited to the island?
Because I sure wouldn't want these guys, and their 'game of power' running lose in myneighborhood.
And yes, I think Ben will regret killing Jacob.

there was a brilliant elaborate theory i once saw posted on Dark's site and i linked it here on one of my posts a while ago. Unfortunately, I cannot find it now. :( but i luurrvved it (to quote the lovely Jello).
in a nutshell, if i can remember: the "good side" wants humanity to end because it needs to restart with a fresh slate, and the the "bad side" wants humanity to continue on as it is. so, then the twist is will the losties side with ending humanity because it is allegedly what is best for the universe or with letting humanity continue on as it is even though that the dark side.
then there is this nonsense: http://www.google.com/search?q=Atu-waa&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
thats a google search for Atu-waa. read some of the articles. its apparently part of some cooky conspiracy theory that people believe. but, Atu-waa is - it seems - an ancient time restarting device that was planted her on earth by aliens who rule ...the universe? idk. it creeps me out that real people really believe this, but its super interesting as a sci fi story that could be part of lost.
no offense to anyone who believe this. just, you know...weird.

I think it's that they come to the island, discover it's time-travelling properties, and realize they can use them to alter history to their own individual advantage. Then there is conflict between individual preferences about what are advantageous alterations to history, which leads to fights, then corruption, then finally distruction where no-one gets to play with the new toy. Unitl the next time someone 'comes' to the island. And it all happens again.
