Ok so me and DD came up with same idea about the whispers and wanted to know if anyone else thought of this as well. No idea if this has come up before but I've never seen it anywhere else.

Remember in first couple Seasons of Lost the losties kept hearing random whispers, sometimes often saying their name. Well what if those whispers are really the losties (or someone else) in that spot in a different time??

Example: When Shannon gets shot. Right before she gets shot you hear the whispers, one of the very last whispers says "Shannon". So what if it's the losties watching it in their present?

For instance....
KATE: "OMG Sawyer stop, that's Shannon, she's about to get shot.. Should we stop her?

Sawyer: No you can't.

Kate: Why not?

Sawyer: You can't change anything.

Kate: Yes I can.... Shannon!!!

We know that when Sawyer and the others were time warped when he could see Kate helping Claire give birth to Aaron. Kate never looked up but had she, would she have seen Sawyer or could Sawyer only see her? He could potentially have yelled her name but she wouldn't be able to see him. Right now we have 2 sets of Losties on the island at the same time however some are in present (we think) and the others are in 1977...maybe they can potentially hear one another if passing in the same location? What do you all think??

And this could even potentially account for Desmond (although his flashback was more realistic and was off the island) but remember he could see the future and kept trying to help save Charlie. He knew what could happen and he could "see it"....not sure if that has anything to do with being on the island in a different time but who knows...

Yeah I just read the one with Shannon that you talked about, funny I was in the middle of reading it before you brought it up haha! I think this could turn out to be quite interesting! :D

Oh ok, yeah I've read the transcripts but it was awhile ago. And no I didn't take this idea off anyone else, literally it was something I was thinking of as I was typing in another thread and then DD said she had been thinking the same thing....so I guess we're all on the same page. I definitely think its plausible though, the whispers have been shown through at least 3 different seasons (if not more) so there has to be more of an explanation, definitely don't think the whispers are red herrings.

My other idea was that it was the spirits of ppl who died on the island (for example, Shannon is at Boone's grave when she hears her name being called and also we know Miles can hear dead people on the island). That was my initial theory in the beginning.

Well some of those whispers could have been Shannon hearing Ana Lucia, Libby and the others venturing out to their side of the island because Ana keeps telling them to "shhh" and stuff....plus she heard that right before Ana shot her.

But it would definitely be interesting to look up all the whispers, maybe they aren't even always trying to talk to the Losties, maybe they just happen to be in the same place (different time) and can hear bits and pieces of a conversation? If that makes sense....

That's what I always thought of when I first saw the show. That it could be the "THE Ghosts" of the Island. But now that time flashes were introduced, its possible that it is the Losties returning from their time up to the present seeing events that took place at pivital moments.

The "Hey dude he likes her" sounds like something Hurley might tell Sayid if he saw himself with the woman he loved... or Boone as some of it states, jealous of the relationship with Sayid.

Yeah, I just find it interesting that they made a point to show us (not just ONCE) that the losties could see themselves from a different time -- Kate helping Claire give birth, Locke and Jack at the hatch when the light comes on, etc. I just don't take that stuff as random...the writers are too smart for that.

So maybe these folks are in their own dimension observing things, and can take control of situations when they want to, but only do it rarely because they don't want to disturb their experiment.

Uh, I thought it was the Others. The ones capable of the super-quick ambushes. There were whispers just before the Stewardess lady disappeared. I thought everybody thought this. Even though the whisper transcripts seem to make specific, though confusing, words, I thought this was may just used for the sake of it? That you weren't really mean to hear anything?

My wife and I have a joke that the Others are just so cool, they can show up anywhere at any givin moment cause they are just cool like that. I mean in season 4 when Ben is with Locke and his crew, he is tide up and constently watched. But Goodwins Shrink wife pops up to Juliette and has a message from Ben.

Reminds me of the Viet cong in the Viet Nam War, they travel silently and stay down wind. They can smell Joe coming a mile away.

Reading THIS makes me change my mind lol, it sounds as if its the dead or something....Sarah?? That was Jack's wife's name....Christian also named Ana Lucia "Sarah" when they used code names and she helped him out. Hopefully they'll answer these whispers! :eek:

I was talking to my brother earlier telling him about the whispers (even tho he doesn't watch Lost). He told me it sounded kinda like this "shadow people theory" he heard of somewhere. So it goes something like this....

Shadow people are suppose to be time travelers from the future, here to watch history, or help guide us. Sometimes they can be seen, sometimes they can't, sometimes all that is seen is a shadow. Sometimes they can be heard, sometimes they can't; because they are caught between dimensions.

Sounds to me like the writers have been listening to some satellite radio as well as some Beastie boys. :)

Well the only thing that gives Ben credibility is that he was trying to save Alex and I do believe he was sincere when he told Danielle to run the the other direction when she heard whispers to protect them. Im so confused!

It is like they are moving in an opposite direction of spacetime than the island when we hear them. Have you seen the new ABC commercial where it shows a bunch of events from season 1 through 5 and everything is going backwards? Connection????

Yeah I totally agree with that and after seeing that commercial I put that together....I still think that could go alone with people being in different time periods (yet in the same spot)....may not be the losties but could be someone/something else.

Thanks Pung. I looked at all of the videos posted on youtube but can't find it. I'm so bad at searching that place though. Maybe someone else can find it. But essentially, all of the important events, the 815 crash, the engine blowing up, etc. are all shown backwards. It is very cool. It has to mean something.

I'm so glad you've seen the commercial also. Maybe it's just in this region or something. IDK. Frankly, at this point, it could be anything but I am leaning towards the connection of things running backwards from that commercial and from the way the whispers speak.

It wasn't always the others... remember, Walt showed up to Shannon and Sayid right before Shannon was shot. It didn't happen every time, but I don't believe it ever happened without the whispers first.
