So Widmore has a lot to do with this whole thing. Do you think he is the one then who sent the four new people to the Island? I can't believe he has the Black Rock book!

Yes.. I think he is the one financing the freighter. Which would also mean they were not going their to rescue anyone.. They are out for money or power or both.

or he gave them the book because there's something about the Black Rock he wants and he wants them to get it. Ben must know about it so they want him to help them find it. theory

Yeah, I think he's the guy looking for Ben and is control of the ship. Craziness!

I've been saying all along that Widmore is the root of the whole thing. What did he mean when Des asked him why he hated him so and Widmore answers, "It's not me who hates you." Any thoughts?

The whole thing about going from the past to the future- it only happens if you have been on the Island right? So that would mean Mankowski has been on the Island? Is he Ben's man on the boat?

Widmore says "it's not me who hates you." and then hands Des the card and pretty much says...let her tell you herself...
i.e. Penny hates you, here go to her and she'll tell you herself.
Widmore bugs me...SHUT OFF THE WATER DUDE!

Did anyone else catch who he was buying the book from at the auction, who was selling it? I believe it was the Hanso Foundation. Which means it likely wasn't found in Madagasgar...

Yes, I think it was Hanso who was selling it. Why would they sell it? How much did they sell it for in American money 3.2 million?!

No, the exchange rate from pounds to dollars is somewhere in the neighborhood of 1 to 2 or 3 (closer to 2 in 1996 surely), which puts the buying price of the book at around $800,000 (he bought it for 380,000 pounds).
I don't think Hanso was selling it at all - we don't know who was selling it. All the auctioneer said is that it was last known to be in the possession of ???? Hanso (can't recall the name at the moment - wonder if it was Alvar).
What this DOES mean is that Hanso is connected to the Black Rock - which I believe is new information and all that we can be sure of at the moment.

Oh, I thought the 3.2 million had to do with something that Ben and Miles were saying in the last episode.

It did - I think that poster was trying to make a connection between the 2.

I just didn't see why emphasizing exchange rates was relevant. Guess I missed some satire apparent between you two, oh well.

Ahh, I do indeed. I didn't really give much thought to that sorry, in my head I've just assumed it was for some devious reason or something, nothing to do with money. So I didn't even think about another seller. Thanks!

Exlant catch my friend. Perhaps Haso wanted Widmore to obtain the book. Like the actuaion was set up in Widmore's favour even though bitters would out bid him. He would just keep going. The reason I say this which I know teh novels have obsloutly nothing to do with the show. But it was said in one of the books that JHanso heald a seat in th eWidmore corpration. Like maybe not one of it's members but outside associates.

It sounds like "Tovard Hanso"...whatever he says it's definitely Hanso but definitely not Alvar. Awesome little scene though...made me giddy :P

And how did Desmond to find him at the auction, anyway? Why did he talk to Whitmore at all? I have a feeling there'll be more time travel in Desmond's future.
