Um.....that's a little silly! I am always hesitant to chalk things up as a mistake but this has to be a mistake. That's just ridiculous. Nice catch, Rach!

Yeah i saw that. And his custom card says "Iraq". Genuine production error?

rachelskid
02-10-2010, 04:29 AM
i think that's probably safe to say...production error. probably.

unless he was routed through Iran for some reason? maybe he ran, maybe he was never "sayid Jarahh Torturer"?

Do you have the screencap without the closup? Underneath that is the date, and there is some debate about whether the last number is a 4 or a 7 (ie., 2004, or 2007). The number looks the same as the first (non-zero) in his birth date, which to me looks like a 4.

this? it probably won't help much, but here it is. I think its a 4.

maybe see it better here: http://lh6.ggpht.com/_Tl7xVSHEwJs/S2ueR6ujkHI/AAAAAAAAARQ/4I4xOa82zwg/s1600-h/LOST_Passes%5B3%5D.png

freakin bizzaro world. what date is that generally? is that 9/22/04? or what? you cannot make out any numbers clearly. and, republic of iran is very noticeable.

and you know they gave us strange close ups of "sayid looking at nadia's picture" TWICE. at least. of course, those must be clues.

Wow, that is freaky! I don't think it's a production error - it would be pretty huge. Surely they are not THAT incompetent?

Oh, I also think it's a 4.

I think it's safe to say that the producers of Lost don't make mistakes.

People say this a lot, and I always think it's a bit silly. Of course they make mistakes - they've even admitted to a few.

The passport is Iran for a reason.

But I agree with this. Perhaps in this timeline, Sayid fled from the Iraqi guard to Iran because he didn't want to be a torturer. Or perhaps his brother (who was supposed to kill the chicken as a young boy) became the torturer and Sayid didn't.

its not that its a stretch is just that its different from before. three are a million possibilities as to why, but right now it can lead on to believe maybe sayid is not sayid the badass.

I doubt it is a production error (although there are many in Lost) but the reason it's Iran doesn't have to be sereptitious. There could be any number of valid resons that Sayid has an Iranian passport....also what would the point be of him being from Iran instead of Iraq, or how will it matter to the big picture? If all it is is to show that some things are Dif. that's fine, but, imo, if you have to use a screen cap to get across a major plot point....chances are it isn't a major plot point. *shrugs*

wellllll....they ODDLY showed sayid staring at nadia's pic while holding his passport TWICE. i even thought, ok, whats the point now. so, for the die hards, like us, who are looking at screen caps, the clue is there.
however, if its something, it will be developed later.

don't you see? PLEASE OLD AND NEW FANS. thats the finale season mantra. why? who knows.

that's true....and there might be something "major' to it, what that might be and how it will be imp. enough to impact the final 17 or so eps. left, idk......so little time so many mysteries left to solve.....shame that they are (maybe) introducing more of them w/o taking the time to answer any of the ones that have been around since season 1. :p

These are not the same passports. His name is written in two different handwritings and the part where it gives the flight number...one says Oceanic ?? (covered by Nadia's pic) and the other says 815 Oceanic.

I noticed that too! I wonder why the production crew would have gone through the trouble of making seperate customs declaration forms for sayid. Maybe someone threw it away before they could get that second shot?? :)

I honestly believe that it is still oceanic flight 815. If it isn't, then wtf?! anywho, ya I noticed the passport was WAY different as well, but I believe it was purposely done. There just isn't enough evidence to say it wasn't purposely done.

Yeah that's really weird...I mean the writers and production crew create all the props and put sooo much effort into every single detail in each scene that I would think it was all on purpose...I can't imagine they would make a mistake like that. But who knows...

In a thread you started about 815:

http://lost.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12357&page=2

I posted links to some screen caps and then also enlarged the date area.

There are at least two different customs declarations...one that includes 815 as the flight number and one that does not.

And the date in the lower right doesn't look like "04" to me, but hard to tell for sure...look at post #67

Ok, this is about the cutest thing ever. A new member that hasn't been approved yet (so he can't post himself) was so excited to share this tidbit, he asked me to post it for him. Here you go Snowblind, and welcome to the loony bin! :D

Here's what he sent me:

God I want to post so bad - About the passport - I have seen two photos of the passport but evidently I am the only one that has noticed that the fingernails are different lengths in each photo....

so if they are two different passports, on purpose, then what does that mean?

rachelskid

i don't think they are two different passports. I think the fingernail discrepancy is about Naveen and his stand in. And, based on the sonogram, its possible that they thought no one would notice and Iranian passport and so even that could be an error for all we know.

The customs declarations don't like the same - there are two of them. One that says just "Oceanic", and one that says "815 Oceanic".

Here's one:

Here's the other:

Also the date in the upper right on one is not the same as the other. Can't tell exactly *what* it says (it's a bit garbled) but definitely not his birthdate as the other one appears to be.

lost-a-lot
02-16-2010, 09:42 PM
The legible birth date is interesting - 1972. Sayid once referenced the First Gulf War when he said, "I was 23 when the Americans came to my country." That places his birth in '67 or '68 in our reality.
