Hi everyone. I'm a LOST newbie. I watched when I could for most of the first three seasons, but I'm an official junkie this year.

Anyway, I have a random question about tonight's episode.

In 1996, Desmond told Penny he wouldn't contact her again for eight years. During their phone call, Penny said she'd been looking for him for the last three years. Why only three years? If she is in 2004, why did she wait until 2001, five years after she last saw Desmond, to start looking for him? Is it possible she's actually in "the future" and has been looking for him since 2004?

Wasn't there a while before Desmond went on the boat race that landed him on the island? Perhaps she only started looking for him after he officially went missing off the face of the planet and then she got worried.

Interestingly, her father's bound to play a big role in helping her find him or even letting her know he's missing, as he bought the log of the Black Rock's first mate from Hanso (which, for the record, I thought was an absolutely brilliant little tidbit in this episode...gave me that giddy "ahhahahaha **** hot!" feeling :P)

Glad you enjoyed that too, Captain! I am dying to see how that will play out, indeed to see how that log ended up off the boat in the first place... and whether it was lost (pardon the expression) before or after the boat arrived on top of the island.

All in all a beautiful episode! Actually felt really glad Desmond finally got to speak to Penny. Slightly annoyed at the way the end of the conversation was edited (the whole one word each thing like they were speaking at the same time...personally I thought it was awfully done) but hey, that's just a personal dislike from a film-making point of view and stands as the only 5 seconds of this episode I didn't absolutely adore. Favourite of the season so far, definitely.

But yeah, definitely opened up a few connections. It's starting to draw a lot of Heroes comparisons in my head (not a bad thing, and obvious given the other connections the shows have)...can't help thinking there's an older generation playing a larger role than we're initially lead to believe (Jack's dad and Locke's dad being good examples so far) as with Heroes. That and Widmore is instantly reminding me of Linderman from Heroes...just has that slight "I'm totally a villain, guys :D" look about him.

Remember, he is not part of O-815 - he was on the island when his sailboat crashed there in 2001. He was in the hatch with Kelvin pushing the button.

Penny has been looking for Desmond for 3 years, since the start of the boat race around the world.... In the past when Desmond saw her for last time, he knew, from Minkowski, the guy in the bed, and more from Faraday that he would have to find a constant to save him. Penny was Desmonds constant as she is in both times that he cares about...

The boat race is what caused Desmond to be on this island in the first place... hope that helps.....
