What, you arent a fan of curling? LOL
I like summer olympics more.
Womens beach volleyball, gymnastics. Half naked women jumping around.
Cant beat it
Although skiing is cool to wacth and figure skating. Like to see people wipe out and embarrass themselves

Tragedy at the Olympics today. A Georgian luger was killed in a training run earlier. He was going so fast he flew off the luge and hit an unwrapped pole. So sad. This year's winter Olympics is really off to a horrible start with injuries and now a death.

It sure it. They are going to try and slow the track down. It has a built in thermostat and they are going to warm it a bit. Very sad start this year. They said there hasn't been a death at the Olimpics since the 60's. Other than the terrorist attack against the Israeli team, that is.

Do you know people that have readily done this?? I've never heard of it.

Loving the opening ceremonies! How interesting: Canada is a larger land mass than the US but has 1/10th the population. I say we ban together and conquer! We can take em'! (Except for those French speaking bastards. We can ship them somewhere else.) :D

reminds me of this concert I went to a few years back, ya know how they have the video and the screens now and they kept having close ups of the face of the singer, when in rock you know you have whole band, whole body of one or two musician, side shot of band or group and maybe a little of the close up singer thing but
what i am saying is it is like living near wisconson watching stuff these days, they will give a camera to anybody (bad analogy about drivers from wisconson aborted)
used to be you had to know something to run a camera, or direct which shot is to air off the cameras available, and i was taught, by several people what the import of this was. I naturally knew when you needed a reaction shot (going to an audience member to see their reaction (way to long ones last night)) and when to stay on the main action etc, but they never do it right anymore
SO FRUSTRATING
'specially when it is history
who let NBC mess it up like this, have they no pride!!

Hey, to each his own, buddy. I think it's cool that my kids are effected by the same sort of thing that meant so much to me when I was teenager. The only cheezy part to me was Janet singing along with Michael. It was good on paper but pretty weak in execution. Just my take on it.

Thanks, J! Yet another reason to come to the finale bash. :D
Yeah, it takes a lot of dedication I bet! Still, snowboarding as a career would be pretty sweet so it's kinda tough to feel too bad for them. Hopefully they'll do really well and get amazing endorsement deals.

Oh skaters. Yes, I can see that. Skating is such an expensive sport. Those little sparkly outfits alone are super expensive! Still, if they stay on their feet, chances are they can score a sweet endorsement deal too. Hopefully the next round will go better.

Yeah, I didn't notice the slip the gold medal ice skating couple made. Now it seems like a pity medal and the couple that got silver really deserved the gold. Maybe they just had stronger scores in the short program? Still, it's suspicious indeed.

I've never enjoyed the winter Olympics as much as the summer for this very reason - there is too much scoring involved, most of which none of us understand. In the summer games, a majority of the events are based on who wins the race, who throws further, who jumps higher, etc.
I much prefer actual races against other opponents - speed skating, snowboard cross - because you get a clear indication of who wins. The events that race against the clock (and the faster opponent) are still ok, but they can be rather anti-climactic. Games that are based on any type of judging or scoring seem so arbitrary at times. Take the men's moguls event for instance, it's exciting to watch, but after the Canadian took first place the commentators kept talking about how fast his time was and all that. The last competitor then starts his run, finishes in an even faster time, probably wasn't as technically sound on one of his jumps but was just as good with everything else - and he finished in 6th place. I just don't get it.
JfromtheD
02-17-2010, 09:56 AM
I agree... the "judging events" are B.S. results.
Just a couple of years ago, the judges admitted that they screwed the Canadians (Jaime Sale was so hot) due to pressure from their own countries.

Aw man, the skating's already over? :(
I think there was a French judge who admitted to being influenced or something, but the fuss and the amount of whining Jamie and her partner did. Lord, they could've handled things more differently. I was living in Canada at the time, so I know what I'm talking about it.

well not really my place to say but i respect the fact that Aboriginals feel it's their culture and would like to be consulted if peeps are going to use their stories or cultural images. as it was it was a poor rip off and not really saying anything traditional with the costume

It was a wild game. USA gave up a lot of turnovers which lead to a lot of shots but Ryan Miller bailed them out. Hopefully they don't get too cocky.
Now Canada will likely play Russia in the quarter finals which will be a huge game.

It was a Tom Brokaw piece and it was really sweet. The most poignant part was the parents speaking about their 2nd youngest son who has Down's Syndrome and how those challenges had better equipped them to face this challenge. Such an amazing story.

No, but they showed a picture of him from Saturday and he looked great. He is talking but they didn't show him. He's supposed to start working on re-learning how to walk this week. What a brave kid. :)

HOLY CRAP!! North America is going to be up in arms on Sunday! I am actually kinda scared. Canada vs. the U.S.A. for the gold medal in hockey!
I am not afraid to say that I won't be too bummed out if Canada wins. It would mean so much to their country and we already won one. Still, the U.S. team has really earned it and I'm fiercely patriotic too! Dammit, I'm torn. :o

Hey J, good to be back.
I had a great game. Got to see four hockey games, and took a great drive up into the mountains. We got so "high" that we drove into this crazy desert area where the first gold rush took place. It was weird. It's just mountains and mountains, and then all of a sudden desert and cactuses on the top of those mountains.
