That episode was absolutely brilliant! It was seriously the most critical, informative, packed with IMPORTANT stuff, episode there has ever been.
We learn for SURE that it is time travel. The way they go about it is complete genius. Constant, flashing back and forth, knowing how to stablize it, it's pure genius.
Then the Black Rock journal, and the fact that the HANSO family had it and "the contents have not been shared outside the Hanso family". Add to that the fact that Penny's DAD bought the thing. Meaning that family will now know all about what is in there. Don't think it's just a coincidence about Hanso Corp. and the fact that Penny has been looking for Des and "i know about the island".
WOW! It's just great. It was the first time for Lost, and probably a tv show ever, that I was sitting staring, completely engulfed and rooting for Desmond. Hands up by my mouth, cheering for Penny to answer the phone.
I was soooooo getting disappointed with Lost last season, as were lots of us, but this season is absolutely awesome and completely brilliant, smart, sharp, genius.
Any thoughts about the connections on the Black Rock journal, the Hanso family, and the Whidmore family?

oh no no no. There are TONS of unanswered stuff left. Monster, Dharma, Others, NUMBERS!, Polar Bear.. tons... but with the journal, Hanso, Whidmore, Penny, timeshift.....
just think about the overall significance of lastnight's episode and all of the "leads" and answers we got.
It was GREAT!

i agree that it did reveal a lot rather than just the teeny clues we get here and there to mull over!

Great maybe, I'm just more confused than ever with more questions than answers.
I'm still wondering what the ? on the map in the hatch was all about.

that's my point Bunny! We got BIIIIG answers and HUGE leads to upcoming answers! Not just the little bitty bits we have come accustomed to getting.
Poco, there are TONS of answers...but to be honest, and i've felt this way for a looooong time. Those old questions wont be answered until the final few episodes, if not the final one. My theory is that the numbers, the map, the hatches, Dharma, Hanso, the black monster, it will ALLLLLL come together during the last FINAL SERIES FINALE (haha) and we finally get ALL the answers! Until then we get these types of episodes.... Lord knows there are enough questions to answer! haha
What episode do you think is better?

I'd have to say the one where they finally let the hatch implode is probably still my favorite. There are still a lot of questions I have about that too.

maybe you LOOK for questions......... and not the answers! haha.
just playing bro. cuz seriously there were tons of answers, and not really any new questions from this new episode.... none that are going to be super important like the timeshift, map, or numbers thing.

It'd be interesting to find out whats in that Hanso journal....I was thinking maybe stuff about Dharma but wasn't the black rock from like the 1600's??? Or maybe thats a stretch and it was like 1900 but still....it was very far back correct? I doubt the Dharma Initiative would be in there but maybe stuff regarding the valenzetti equation (the numbers) would be in there? Haha not even sure what I'm saying here....I need an asprin.

Well they did find the polar bear remains in the desert with the Dharma collar next to it. Who knows how long it'd been there. Maybe Dharma somehow went back in time and created Atlantis. I'm lost too. :p

I am new to this site and not sure if anyone has mentioned this but go to www.lostisagame.com. It doesn't answer all the questions but it's the most descriptive theory I've seen so far. He explains the numbers, smoke monster and a ton of other aspects of the show. It changed the way I watch it.

i checked out that site and dont agree at all - alot of the facts on there are quite wrong despite all the research he claimes to have done.

I knew it would be a good episode, as soon as I found it was Desmond centric I thought "this episode is going to be awesome"
Every episode around Desmond is great...and this one was no exception.
damm
I so need to get out of work - get home and watch watch watch

I'm guessing that the journal has some very important information about the island and the area(s) surrounding it. Maybe, like and island they couldn't get back to unless they knew how, a la Pirates of the Carribean. Might also have something documenting how the people went "crazy" after they left (timeshifters) and how they got to it and away from it, etc etc.
Then Hanso puts stock in what it says, does his ditty..... enter Dharma initiative... it's sold in 96 to Whidmore and Penny realizes the significance and possibility for Desmond.
just my guess though.

One thing I want to point out and i don't think anyone mentioned it yet, is that the first time we met faraday, he's locked up in a home watching the news and the findings of the wreckage of oceanic flight 815. someone asks him what's wrong as he begins to cry. he replies 'i don't know'. so, to me, past faraday has already been to the future, on the island, but hasn't made contact with desmond in the past. does that make any sense? faraday, watching that newscast, has some sort of relationship tied up to the crash...in the past. somehow, faraday is going through the exact same thing that desmond is. does anyone remember this or have any insight they'd like to share?

Yea I'm not sure about everything on the site but did you read about the numbers and the levels. It may not be a game but the fact that each number represents how many days each stage of the show have been and how the end of the level is represented with mention of birds in the scene? The roles people play at different times throughout the seasons is interesting. For instance, the site states that Jack is not a very good tracker. The next episode I watched after reading that was when Jack, Sayid, and some others I can't remember were using the tracking device to find Locke and the parachuter. When they realized they were moving away Jack started running in front of everyone else and based on what I read I knew he wouldn't find them which they didn't. I don't know if that made any sense. I don't believe everything on that site but the breakdown of characters and their roles is interesting.

yeah, the journal has to give clues to location of island, thats how dharma got there, and the freighter (which is probably widmores)
gotta think widmore and ben are arch enemies and thats who ben is killing with sayiid
or not :)

dude says "can't affect the future". But nothing about affecting the past.
It sounds like maybe he has a relationship that he doesn't even know about (because it hasnt happened yet) but he still feels something because it DOES happen, but in a messed up kind of way because of the timeshift thing.
I gotcha bro.

You have to wonder though how anyone knows who Ben is considering he grew up on the island. Unless le left the island on the sub and made enemies.

They have a picture of him, so he has shown his face, and more than once.
I'm guessing they know of him and who he is because of him killing off Dharma and then continueing on with the Others, and him going back and forth from the island. I'd bet they know of him because of all of that stuff and he knows if they get to him he's in for a whole new world of hurt!

Yeah, you're right! You said it for me. hehe I loved the 'action' in this episode. with Desmond fighting to get a way to make sense of things, and his escapades in the army, and the emotional ending!

Perhaps Daniel goes back in the past to stop the plane from sitting in the bottom of the sea. I know there was all of Frank's "that's not the pilot" stuff. Just an idea don't get all crazy on me.
