View Full Version : Who the players are

So, I've been thinking about the 4 groups of players in this drama and what they are about.

We have, of course, the survivors of oceanic 815.

Then we have The Others. These are Ben, and the people he has brought to the island, like Juliette, or Desmond, who were there before OA815.

Then we have the "original Others". These are the original others that convinced Ben to kill the Dharma people. I believe that these are the crew of the Blackrock, or their descendants.

Lastly, we have the freighter people, broken into two groups: the bad guys and the scientists (and pilot).

I think that what is playing out is that the freighter people are "the dark side" of the Hanso (Dharma) projects. These are people who, once they discovered what the island can do in terms of time travel, are determined to find a way to use it. I don't believe that their motive is simply money...

...that's the motive of the ghost-chaser Asian guy (who's name I can't remember at the moment). I think he was dropped into this role to paint the money part as petty and unimportant...but possible.

I think that Penny's father owns the freighter, and was in some way involved with Hanso and knew about the diary, but couldn't get it until the auction we saw last night. I think that he has put together the team formerly headed by Naomi. I think that he wants to use the island's properties in conjunction with Farraday's knowledge to change world events...basically the ultimate goal of every megalomaniac.

I think that the two scientists are involved strictly for their own research purposes and are knowingly being used...but that is common in the scientific community (remember Jurassic Park, and Contact). From a story point of view, they are free radicals...we don't know how they are going to react...as Farraday has already proven.

I think that Ben is the only guy who knows exactly what Whidmore is up to, and must stop him at all costs.

What's cool about this scenario (if I'm even close) is that it leaves so much possibility open. What happened between what we now know, and a bearded Jack's tearful plea to return to the island.

The devil is in the details...I LOVE this stuff!
