I'd def pick a person who knew me and cared about me. They could calm me down if I got into a situation like Desmond did last night.Someone who would believe me and would follow instructions.My Mr. Phil!
Would you be able to pick someone who was alive in l996 but dies in the gap between that and 2004?Penny was alive in both time periods.If Desmond had called her in 2004 and she was dead, then isn't he on the way out?Am I not understanding this process?

i think it has to be someone oe something about in both times. but i was wondering too - if they died or if it was an object and it was destroyed, would you need to find a new one toot sweet?

I don't think the constant can be yourself. I think that is what would drive you mad. I don't know how it would cause an aneurysm though. I don't think your conscious could comprehend that your soul/spirit is living simultaneously in diff. time. It has to be someone or something else as a reference to convince your conscious you are not mad. I think a person would be a better constant as to give you ressurance that somebody else believes you.
What about multiple constants? I would pick my mom. She would think I was insane but would also make sure she would answer the phone 8 yrs. later. I would also try to get my sister and a good friend (pref. with an open mind) as back-up. LOL

cause Minkowski didn't know that he needed a constant, and Desmond didn't either until Faraday talked to him...

As for Sayid and Frank, they never had the two things that everyone is saying that needs to happen for this to happen.....brain is starting to hurt.....

Another thought:Does your constant have to be a hearing and speaking person?What if you choose a deaf and hard of hearing person-I guess the writers have already worked that out somehow?
