Something that I have begun to notice is the amount of children on this show so here it goes there seems to be alot of kids popping up all of a sudden and even in the flashbacks almost every character has been seen as a child. The theme of childhood seems to be important.

Jack: Seen as a child in a school fight father of david
Kate: Seen as a child stealing a lunch box foster mother of Aaron
Claire: Seen as a teen mother of Aaron
Sawyer: Seen as a child hiding under the bed father of clementine
Jin: Not seen as a child father of Ji Yeon
Sun: Seen as a child lying to her father mother of Ji Yeon
Hurley: Seen as a child helping dad
Juliet: Seen as a child discussing parents divorce aunt to sister rachels child
Charlie: Seen as a child Christmas and swimming foster father to Aaron
Sayid: Seen as a child won't kill a chicken
Locke: Seen at every stage of childhood and adolescence father to an as of yet unamed teenage son
Michael: Not seen as a child father of Walt
Faraday: Seen as a child learning piano
Desmond: Not seen as a child father of Charles
Miles: Seen as an infant and as a boy
Charlotte: Seen as a 3 year old child dharma barracks
Rosseau: Seen younger mother of Alex
Ben: Seen as an infant and as a child foster father of Alex
Widmore: Seen as a teen father of Penny and possibly faraday
Mr. Ecko: Seen as a child playing soccer in nigeria
Anna Lucia: Pregnant when shot lost the baby
Ethan: We see him as an infant
Zach and Emma: Child survivors of plane crash we were made aware of their prescence and that they were still alive several times during the show
Jungle kid: ???????
Dogen: Not seen as a child but is a father to unamed asian kid
The other characters that I haven't mentioned are Bernard and Rose, Libby and maybe some others that I can't think of right now so heres my point, What if at some point on the time line there was some type of Lord of the Flies scenario where all these peoples kids landed on the island and the losties are the descendants of their own kids? I just have never seen a show where there is so much emphasis on children, the ability to have children, and relationships with children. Ok I am done now. What do you think? What if Mibs name is David?

I've been thinking about this too. One point, Sayid did kill the chicken it was his brother who wouldn't (just like Mr. Eko saving his brother, Sayid does what is necessary to protect his brother).

I don't think the Losties are descendents of their own kids, but what if Jacob/MiB keeps taking people from the same family. For example, first Jacob/MiB were watching Christian as a potential candidate, but when he failed to live up to their expectations they turn to his children Claire & Jack, and so on. If Claire fails there's always Aaron...

I've been mulling this thread over in my mind and I keep running off on tangents, so forgive me if I steer your thread off in another direction!

I've been reading a lot about John Locke the philosopher's theories about the nature vs. nurture debate (he was the modern day proponent of tabula rasa - children being born with a blank slate) and then I read this thread. I agree that children have been a major part of the story, as well as their upbringing. Daddy issues are another major part of the story and I really think there are a lot of family ties that bind our Losties to that island. Tabula rasa - children - family ties - time travel. Since we're on a time traveling island, I wonder if we'll ever see our Losties as children on the island in the past? Perhaps everything that we have been seeing is a flash forward and our Losties are part of the original inhabitants on the island?
