View Full Version : Character Turnover

Does this annoy anyone else as much as it annoys me? Lost is getting ridiculous with introducing characters and then killing them.

Dogen. (knew a lot more than he let on)
Lennon. (annoying, but he knew stuff.)
Jacob. (I know he's still around kind of, but not really).
Locke. (Never liked him until S5, but know that he's out and out evil, he's not the Locke I grew to like).
MiB. (Whoever acted as him back in 17 hundred and whatever, was so much more badass than Locke can ever be.)
Sayid. (most likely to become a evil robot)

Ben and Richard look like they are being pushed aside.

Someone I have noticed about Lost is that characters are often killed off once they have served their purpose in the story (Faraday, Charlie, Ana Lucia, Boone for example), but recently it seems that they're not even getting chance to fulfill their purpose.

Dunno, just annoys me for some reason.

They introduce them and kill them so fast, to fool us into thinking things are getting accomplished.

So, they can have 5 long episodes of Locke trekking across the island some more.

It's all BS, and it's getting old.

Speaking of Ben, I always keep forgetting he was on Jacob's side, and that all these Others were following him. For some reason, I keep associating Ben with MiB more than I do with Jacob. So bloody confusing.

I am very saddened that so many of the characters that I have grown fond of are gone. I thought Dogen was a fabulous new find and would have liked to know him better, as well as Lennon. I hated that Charlie died so suddenly and was never seen again, along with Libby and Ana Lucinda. Mr. Echo was one of my altime favorites and I have hoped that they were all going to be back, but now I feel that they were a means to explain parts of the story.

Same here. There are so many ways they could present S6 -- why bring in new faces that take up precious airtime? It's frustrating to me.

Why is it confusing to you, Yelly?
I think it's as simple as Ben genuinely thinking he was following what he thought was the good guys side. He was played just like everyone else.

It's very frustrating to see a new character that I enjoy get bumped off. But TPTB want to focus on the original Oceanic survivors. It's their show, and I am but a slave to their storytelling.

In the beginning.... I liked Jack. As more and more of the show goes on, he got worse and worse. Every time he starts to show some sense, he turns around and acts like a spoiled, impatient little kid. I'd be confused too, but guy needs to calm down already, and stop being so reactionary. However that wouldn't be his character.

He's a very broken man--he almost jumped off a bridge for goodness sakes! I have faith that Jack will pull it together in the end.

Here's a thought....

I think they introduced new characters to give us more info..
We now know Dogan made a deal with Jacob, which I think is a big deal (no pun intended.)
If Dogan made a deal then more than likely most, if not all, the "others" did.

I'm thinking no one person holds all the answers.
Each follower of Jacob was given their job and rules that apply to them with only enough info. to ensure they do their job properly.

Richard was given his job, with rules, and info..
Dogan was given his job, rules, and info..
Eloise was given her job, rules and info..
Ben was given his job, rules, and info......and so on.
I'm thinking they all have limited information, so to get answers we need to meet more followers. The more followers we meet the more info. we get.
....idk, just another thought :)

The two people I have never liked: Jack and Charlie.
Jack is an idiot, who needs control even if its not what he actually wants. He simply needs to be in the drivers seat at all times. Lame as balls. Charlie is just pathetic. Heroin, murder, stealing babies, uselessness. Since Jack smashed the mirror, he's been dead to me.

At the risk of sound awful, its rare that I read something I havent thought about or thought of with Lost. I have multiple journals filled with notes and thoughts. The one stream quotes is tremendous. I love this. Its furthers my thoughts to no end. I always thought about the scene in the Looking Glass, with the two women are kept in the dark about anything that might educated them as to their situation. American Slavery? Sorry, couldnt help it. Anywho, Lost has the habit of using continual themes. The main one: Light and Dark. Good and Evil. But also, master manipulation, conning, murder (almost all the Losties have killed someone), rules/regulations, time, vengeance, regret, etc. But the list of proofs with the chain of command only knowing specific information is wonderful. It will be included in my final entry, which has been in the works for years now.... it changes often :D

All right...I know people call Jack a Dick. I get that. But LOST is about redemption. He can and will be redeemed. Matthew Fox does a great job with all the inner torture. Maybe I just indentify with Jack Shepherd more than most fans. I lost my father, not to alcoholism, although my father was a recovering alcoholic. I lost my father to lung cancer and emphysema, due to decades of cigarette smoking. Which is why I am so very anti-smoking. Plus I had someone I loved, that loved another guy as well. So maybe that's why I dislike Kate so much. And I almost offed myself once like Jack, too. Therapy 101, anybody? LOL! But I will defend Jack to the very end, He is brash and does not think things through, true. But he is a very decent human being. Plus Matthew Fox said he knows alot about how LOST ends, and I believe Jack will die a hero.

Yes, quite. It takes a lot for me a really get worked up about a new idea, proposed by someone I am unfamiliar with. Well done.

Also, the tumor bit. I dont want anyone to get a tumor, but the irony of Jack having a tumor on his spine as a way to kill him off the show would make me laugh for days. ;)

JohnQ spoke of redemption.
I do think repentence is key to whatever ultimately happens to the characters.
Some who have been killed never were sorry, never learned, were never repentant.
I agree to what he said about Jack being redeemed (but maybe not dieing)
I also stand with my thinking that Ben will be redeemed (but perhaps die a hero)

I like Jack. He gets a bad rep from people - but I always maintain that if any of us were put in the same situation, we would make the same decisions that Jack made, or we would at least follow the Jack-type. He may not have always been right, but he did make the best decisions for the group based on what they knew at the time.
