Ending theory: (sorry it got a little long as I typed)
So I’ve read here a while, but this is obviously my first post.
My theory (although it combines lots of previously read theory’s) is:
The writers are creating twists & turns to create doubt about the validity of MIB’s and Jacob’s side in the eternal struggle for good and evil, and most viewers are waiting for the huge cliff hanging “twist” that makes MIB the good guy. Just as they’ve done with most every other character. However if MIB was good, eko a priest (even though he wasn’t always) would have never been killed by the smoke monster…
In actuality I think the “twist” is that the “sideways reality” is what would happen if Jacob & MIB had never interfered with their original lives (at one point one of the survivors (or ben, Richard, etc)will “wish” for that, and probably be in the final episode)
Each person is making ‘deals’ with their respective sides, in order to essentially still be a pawn in the greater game of life between MIB & Jacob trying to find loopholes to dominate the other.
The episodes are basically further investigating each candidate, and giving clues as to what’s happening in the sideway’s reality. However as the losties are making deals, you’re also seeing how their lives are affected in the sideways reality.
Jacob’s Team (that’s known at this time, and has been examined)
Dogen, is successful (apparently dressed well), and reunited with his son as seen at jacks son’s recital. Presumable wish: to be with his son again. - Granted
Hurley, Is very successful, and no longer unlucky, as stated in LA X, and seen as he offers John a job. Presumable wish: to stop being unlucky. – Granted
Jack, has a son, and is building a relationship – I’m making assumptions on him, because he hasn’t really “committed”, and I’m sure there will be more about him in future episodes. Presumable wish: “to be a better father than his father was” - Granted as in on the island he said he’ be a terrible dad, and now it’s looking like it will work out. There’s still the mystery of who the ex-wife is, why they're separated, and how it plays out
MIB’s team. (that is known at this time)– He’s granting the wishes to the letter of the law, but NOT THE INTENT….There’s always a catch when making a deal with the devil.
Locke – This one is tricky because technically locke hasn’t really chosen a side, he was dead, and only his image is being used. However assuming he’s indebted to MIB his presumable wish would to not be lonely, well he’s not lonely, but is still in a wheel chair, we do know that his dad and him are on good terms, but not how he was crippled this time. If he does get operated on he’s indebted to Jack, and he’s now indebted to Hurley for giving him a job (and worked for him before)
Sayid – His wish presumably was to not have to have tortured Nadia, and have her alive and happy. Well she’s alive and happy WITH HIS BROTHER, and Sayid is still plagued with the memories of being a torturer, causing him to not feel worthy enough to be with her. Jin is tying in now in the alternate reality, and you don’t know if his reality will be great, or twisted great. More will come. He works for an international company......Widmore maybe?
Sawyer – Still a conman (assumed by the conversation on the plane with Hurley), my guess at his presumed wish would to be not loose Juliet. Well shocker now if predictions are right she isn’t lost, but is jacks ex-wife ohhhh the pain, Both were in the medical field, and it’s not all that far-fetched( plus he’d be indebted to a member of the “good side” while still no having his promise in it’s entirety) More will come of him and his situation
Claire – Presumably wished for her son – Well she got him there’s no atoptee’s, but she’s still a single mom, and will have to be indebted to jack in some fashion for the will of Christian, more will come on how her reality will be twisted, and not spot on.
Christian – This one is a little bit of a reach, but When Jin says “how do you know they have your baby” Claire first says” Well first my dad told me, and then my friend”. The first part of the sentence is quick, and vastly shadowed by the appearance of Flocke. We also know that during one of the times the visited “Jacob” in the cabin, it was his image that they saw (the time the ash was disturbed). Also Christian has virtually been the nemesis to Jack, causing his doubt throughout life, and Appeared to Lapedis and Sun to tell them they had a long way to go to find the others. His deal would probably have been to have a successful career & family, he did however he also had an addiction that ruined it all.
Tweeners –
Kate, we don’t know if she’s committed to a side, her presumable wish would to be not killing her father. We know from what she said to Claire “would you believe me if I said that I didn’t do it” That she may have gotten her wish and didn’t do it, but she’s still on the run – If my theory holds water that will pretty much indicate she’s headed to the dark side.
Jin/Sun, Presumably jin wanted, sun, and sun wanted jin, but how the father/marriage thing will run out we don’t know, and will find out his involvement with the situation syid stumbled in to.
Illiana/Crew/ most of the others – We don’t really know much about them, but flashes will dictate what’s going on, however some of them sure seem in service to one side, we just haven’t seen there alternate reality.
So…we see the sides, and we see how their deals are “playing out”, the sideways reality, is being billed as “what would have happened if 815 hadn’t crashed”, however that’s not the entire story. David, jacks appendix, Different days of the flights, desmond being on the plane, ect, all show us in plain sight that FAR more changed than just “not crashing”. Had non of Jacob’s “pushed changes” happened in life # 1, then the sideways reality is the REAL reality. Depending on who exactly asks for Jacob/MIB to not affect their lives the alternate reality could have been “re-written” clear back to their original introduction to the cycle, even MIB says “Anything is possible”. (My guess is that it’s Richard who ends up being the final warrior, having the most intimate knowledge of both sides, and re-writes history back to the black rock), each “candidate” will play a pivotal role, therefore solidifying their deal.
Each episode is building toward the battles of all battles, but the truth of the matter is you can’t kill good or evil, you can only kill ideas, and people. Jacob/MIB are battling and using the pawns, that have been chosen for this game. Well when this game culminates, in whatever manner, and the final battle destroys the island, then the “warriors” are granted their wishes. The culmination of events with then have Jacob/MIB either “locked” into a place where they can’t fight at each other, letting the natural balance of good and evil rule, or are forced to grant the wishes in”ginn-esque” fashion and will have to find another place to play out there game, because the pawns, are gone, and the island is sunk. Good and evil go to the next place and start this over again, where the real effect in some sort of twisted thought is sort of a reincarnation type event where those who fight for evil never really get to experience the full value of their wishes, and those who fight for good really advance their chance at a better life.
The island is a virtual portal where Jacob and MIB were banished, or were placed, and they’ve been constantly working to find loopholes to dominate the other one, as long as they’ve been there, well something happens causing life altering changes, the island to sink, and life to go on, as if they never existed, (or exist somewhere else, were locked back up, or released on to eternity)
MIB was once a man, is there evidence that he was offered a deal to live on the island, and be given a second chance, and power, but only to get fed up with the power and want to leave the island now he’s trying to do whatever it takes himself of the creator, therefore relieving him of his debt. But he has to kill everyone Jacob has touched or they just keep coming… (much like Lucifer originally being the #2 behind god until he became jealous, and getting banished to hell)
Obviously there are some holes, and more will be discovered here in the next couple of months, but this, is sure what it’s looking like to me….
