many thoughts but find the opening to another dimension the most intriguing esp since we know with LOST the "eye" is a major key to what is going on....and when the "doctor" on the freightor is checking desmond's pupils with the penlight...he then went back??What do u guys think??

Well, the eyes have always been known has the window into the soul. Right now I think only one's soul and not the conscious is sharing a diff time or plane.

well, there wasomsthing about eyes changing colour too. but it was on that 'lost is a game site' and i am not convinced its true!

however, a lot of the actors on the show do seem to have very intense eyes.

I'm just randomly throwing this out there but that doctor definitely seemed SHADY to me, I dunno....I mean we know the radiation bulb shined on the rat is what triggered his time shifts so PERHAPS the doc's "flash light" somehow had something in it that would trigger his shifts? Like I said, just throwin it out there lol :p

he was very creepy - especially when he asked if desmond has just 'experienced' something *shudder*

Yah its like he knows whats going on and he knew shining that light into his eyes would trigger something.

it was funny when desmond wanted to make it happen again and tried flashing it in his own eyes! well, made me giggle anyway!

it was one of the greater moments of lost - whole episode was amazing!

I agree the doc was creepy and knows what is going on, but I thought he was truly trying to help Des, but not give anything away. I don't think the light was meant to trigger anything, but rather help diagnose as future mind wrote above.

i dont know if he was trying to help des as such but use him for confirmation.

weird man either way!

Changes in the brain are often reflected in the eyes. A fixed pupil or one pupil that's a pinpoint size or is dilated can mean serious neurological problems.Or it is another sign that the doc was looking for? This will prob come up again.

BB, you are absolutely right regarding the pupils and neuro changes, but I can't help wonder if the doc was looking for something else only because it is lost. It's possible we may be over thinking this. It could be that is was the quickest and easiest way to show us he may be a real doctor for dramatic effect.. It takes but a few seconds of film and they don't have to explain any medical significance.

What I loved about this week's episode was that it opened way to a whole new aspect on what's going on. Now not everyone will semi-time travel as Desmond did. But the eye opening at the beging of specfic episodes means something. Like in sense they are loging into the learning system of the island. Like not like mechnical or computer wise. But the enity behind the island is connected with th elosties and are showing them task to do to survive. Kinda a test if you will. How,why, etc is unclear and will remain unclear untill the end. I belive that each chr is some what time travling maybe not to the extreame as to Desmond where it's apparant and altering their mind and life. Butthey are able to visit aspects of thei rlives to give them an idea of what they are supose to do. That in my opion is the reasons behind flash backs. It tells us aboutthe chr yes. But it 's also a clue as to what each chr must achive that episode. Such as when Jack was looking for water and new shelter for the Losties in episode "White rabit" He was lost and was angery. the island or in my opion Jacob showed Jack that in order to find what he is looking for he must first learn to let goof his anger with his father and that he must step up as leader if everyone is going to survive. His reward for passing the test was the discovery of the caves and water. Remember when he achived his task a loud pop was heard and he gave chase and he found teh caves. That whole episode was about how Jack needed to let go . You could see it in his flash backs.

I think that someone here could do research on what different cultures say about the eyes- like the eyes are the windows to/of the soul.In the U.S. if someone doesn't look you in the eyes, then you're wondering why. Students from diff. cultures won't look an adult in the eyes because it's considered rude.I believe this is an interesting thread because eyes carry a lot of significance for this show.

I am not going to reseach the statistics, but it always seemed to me that there are a disprortionately high number of people on the island with green eyes.

Maybe I'm wrong, i just don't know that many people with green eyes.

People have thrown out ideas of many characters being related, maybe with green eyes as a family trait or something...

I can't remember any other scenes of Ben off the island since he was born in the woods. Have there been others I forgot?

People with blue eyes absorb more of the sun's UVR's so it's best to wear sun glasses even little children. An eye doc told me that.Slip on a shirt, slap on a hat, slop on some lotion and schlepp on some sunglasses. I live in Arizonna which has more skin cancer than any other state. No fun having cancer removed from your schnoz.Talk about radiation!

That doctor WAS freaky wasn't he? And they do show a lot of eyes in the show in general. I think it is to do with dilation in this episode. Beachblinkette, I didn't know that about blue eyes, that's really interesting! I have green eyes so I don't need to worry :)

It's dialate, like when you go to the eye Dr. The pupils grow larger to let in more light.

The radioman's eyes changed when he TT'd to the past. Maybe he was just looking for similar signs in Desmond. He was a creepy doctor. But who else was availaible for a shady mission on a broken down frieghter? A not so competent one, that's for sure. By the way, I think the actor who played the doctor, was also on CSI as an incompetent, and not so smart, CSI.

Now Jacksnurse's eyes? That's another story. I think I need a sponge bath...
