take on the flash forwards

I have been wondering if the flash forwards are seen by the characters (i.e. Hurley or Jack). Also if the flash forwards are really the future or just in there minds them seeing what could happen if they get off the island. I always interpreted the flashbacks as the characters reliving their past...so what about the flash forwards?

I think that the flash forwards are in fact real pictures of whats going on in the future just as the flash backs showed us insight to all the characters' pasts. I think the show was running out of flashbacks to use so they came up with the idea to show us the future, keeping us in suspense of how they got there. I think the flashbacks are a great idea!!:)

good points, but did you think the characters saw the flashbacks as we did, like were they reliving there past as we saw it, or was it just the creators showing us the past, and the character was not having the flashback? i am wondering if the characters are now in fact seeing the future...or if we are seeing the future and have the third person view on the whole thing...basically do we know more than the characters do about the future?

No I think the flashbacks and flashforwards are just for the viewers, my personal opinion.

yea i am on the fence, the flashbacks made it seem like the characters were actually seeing there past...in hte greatest hits episode with charlie...they just made it seem like they were re-living there past and we were seeing it too. But maybe i just read it wrong. It will be interestng...someone had mentioned that maybe desmond is seeing all of these flashforwards...just like he saw charlies future...i think thats a stretch...who knows?

I think the flashback were to show the past and the flashforward to show the real future (not what could happen but what will happen) of all the characters. I think the flashes are for us, to better understand the characters. With the flashes the creators can focus the show on the island. I don't think the show will ever get off the island. Everything in the present time will stay on the island. But with this show, you never know... I've been wrong in the past!

The flash forwards are just as brilliant as the flashbacks. Think about what is happening with the flash forwards, the flasforwards have almost switched all of the island footage into a sort of flashback now. We get to see what the future is, and we also get to see the past unfolding on the island, eventually the island time will catch up to the flashforwards. Stay tuned.

When Charlie made his list of the best moments of his life I am sure he thought back on them, but otherwise I feel sure that the rest of the FB's are for us the viewer to get to know the characters and tell the stories.

I am positive the fb's and ff's are only for the viewers. If the characters saw them, then they would realize that they have a connection with/ have seen some of the other people on the island, since some of the fb's show them crossing paths with eachother.

i was thinking this too. if they saw the flashbacks as they are, they would see that they actually know some of the people or recognize them. i think the ideas in the flashbacks are remembered by the people on the island, but not the specificity of them. i do not think the flashforwards are seen by the islanders, just us.
