I have been reading through some posts and there has been some speculation as to why Daniel had to look at his notebook to remember Desmond. I was thinking just as in the Butterfly Effect, Ashton Kutcher's character experienced a similar phenomenon, except in that movie history was alterable and not written.

When these men's consciousnesses "jump time" their physical self blacks out, hence not remembering. I think because Daniel met Desmond before he hopped on the helicopter is the ONLY reason why he is gaining his memory back. He found his constant and is slowly recovering...hence the cards....Just as after Desmond talked to Penny he remembered Sayid.

I hope this made sense.

i didn't think about any connection with Lost and this movie...i remember that he keeps going back into his past to try to change his future but on the first time hates where he finds himself so keeps returning to the past to try to create the ending he wants....that one was a little confusing...good job navy...makes much sense

I was mostly thinking of how he blacked out everytime he traveled and couldn't remember anything

I was wondering when you were going to respond to my notebook question in the other thread, navy! And what's with breaking it down in "barney" terms....calling us dumb?! j/k. I think it's possible that there's a connection between the movies...but just because it happened in this movie doesn't mean that's the "fact of the matter"....That's the beauty of time travel. Since it doesn't really exist (to my knowledge) can't they go whatever direction they want with it?

good catch. so that must mean patchy has been off the island.

Good idea Navyman. That would explain the whole playing card thing and his reaction to seeing the Oceanic crash, Daniel has had these problems with his memory. My question is this: How would Daniel have forgotten about Desmond? Assuming that their last interaction (before the island) was when Desmond ran off to find Penny, did Daniel then immediately forget what had just happened? Then he will be triggered to remember it now that he's been reunited with his constant? I understand your logic and I think you're going in the right direction, I'm just confused about how this would work.

Ok, here is my explanation for that. How did Daniel not remember Des? Remember the cards....I think when Daniel got to the island....at some point....the "sickness" started happening to him, but on a smaller scale, hence no total amnesia. When he first interacted with Des he contacted his constant, hence restoring his memory, although not completely seemingly, but as a slow process.
