Closure for Des?

Sometime around 1996 Des and Penny were in love, but for various reasons they went their separate ways. Throughout his time on the island we know Des clearly regretted leaving Penny. Fastforward eight years from Des' last contact with Penny, and Des and Penny finally kiss and make up via long distance. (Penny looked like she put on a few pounds since we saw her last - Des might want to reconsider, but that's for another thread).

Granted Dan said 'displacements' appeared to be unpredictable/random, but Des' displacement allowed him to come full circle with Penny as those of you who cried during their phone call (Robo say you didn't cry) undoubtedly noticed.

So Des' displacement seemed to resolve his life's unfinished business - professing his love to Penny. Perhaps the displacements will represent closure for the other characters, and the displacements aren't as random as Dan thinks.

anyhoo - rant over ;) and what i was gonna say is that perhaps the closure is what anchored him?

Ya know what bothers me is , does Desmond come back to his regular self or does he stay the 96 guy? What happens to the 96 guy does he become the 04 guy? paradox?

Something else to think about . Maybe its not important but ill ? it. Remember when desmond dropped his change for the phone by the guy who smacked his shoulder. Immidietly he flashed forward to the freighter.When he got back to 96 he was looking at the same guy walking away as if he wasnt gone at all. I keep thinking this is something significant.

yes i noticed that. the time that passes between each episode differs. sometimes it ages and like that time it was a split second.

I have to think we have our beloved 04 Des back now. After the phone call to Penny from the boat, he seemed to remember Sayid. I think this is a clue that he's been completely restored, or that the 96 Des was really good at guessing games.

Now that he has a made contact with a constant or anchor in both times, Des should be fine.
