with daniel faradays character.

partly as he is really interesting and partly as jeremy davies is great to watch as an actor - he really brings daniel to life with all his little mannerisms. i love it! and pairing him up with desmond for such a key episode was just genius as they are both so strong yet so different from each other.

I agree B, I think it is these actors who save the show. I think hurley is great and enjoy Kate and her character, but do not consider them very good actors. As an actress yourself, How would you rate the actors.

well, kate has always been my least favourite. her character is not great anyway in my opinion but you could do something with her and I dont think thats happening. she is okay as a supporting actress but when it comes to kate based eps, she just isnt strong enough to carry them and i always feel a little let down.

hurley, well i think he does a good job at being hurley lol! i cant see anyone else in that role so even though its not mind blowing acting, he still makes us believe in him.

i dont even rate matthew fox that much either. he is a good actor but not a great character actor. i think thats why so many people are so blah about jack!

I like your point about Jack. on most threads we never really mention him except for some swooning. I don't think many of would have followed him.

Another pretty boy. I think the actors who play Des, Ben and maybe Locke have the most range

Speaking of the actor that plays Hurley....I remember watching him try out reading for other characters during the casting. It was on the extras to season 1. He definately couldn't carry the other roles. I think they said when the first saw him they actually created the Hurley character just for him. Probably tailored to his strengths....which is the Hurley we all love!!:D

That's funny because my friend and I were discussing how his character in party of five is so much like jack....always taking care of everyone....almost self righteous at times. And annoying at others!

yeah...use to watch that show what in the 90's....god...seems so long ago....definitely the same type of character

see actors like that - they can say the lines convincingly and the likes so they can act but they are almost the same character everytime with a different name.

whereas some actors become the character.

i think juliet is pretty good too. i have seen her be mrs claus and its so far removed lol! and you are never sure if you trust her or not so to be as duped as the losties at times is pretty good.

yes Juliet is a good actress I think. I saw her on an episode of law and order recently and she had dark brown hair. SHe was good in that too.

My opinion on the best actors:

Ecko (R.I.P.)
Locke
Ben
Juliette
Desmond
Vincent;)

I like Dan's role and the fact that he appears to want to be honest and tell people the truth.(Or is it the good copDan and the bad copCharlotte in that scene?)He's vulnerable and that makes him seem more human.Juliet doesn't say very much so that when she does speak it is given more weight.I like her character, too.Being a person who usually wishes I'd kept my mouth shut, I always admire those who are prudent and, like the Quakers, practically have to be shaking before they make themselves speak. I'm very glad that there are a lot of people who do give opinions openly because the forum might be quite flat otherwise. My Lost favorites seem to wax and wane depending on their actions. I guess I've got to work on that unconditional love thing.

I think Ben is the best actor on the show by a pretty significant margin. I really can't think of many creepier "villains" in any medium and the way he delivers lines is just chilling. Ecko was great. I saw him in another movie, no idea what it was, where he played an African American gangster (without the African accent obviously) and he was nearly unrecognizable. Desmond is pretty good, but I think Daniel Faraday is one of the best also.

i am not sure if i would call ben a villian.

Rain13
03-02-2008, 06:02 PM
That's why I put "villain" in quotes. If you've read any of my other threads about this topic you know that I think he's a good guy, but no one seems to agree with me so I'm glad you do (if you do)! Anyway, what I mean is that right now he has the role of villain and so the actor is playing, in effect, a villain. In other words, when the actor who plays him was reading for the part he would have no knowledge that Ben was, in fact, not a villain and would have just seen cues on the script like "say this in a really creepy and evil tone".

bunnydixon

no i agree that ben is not a villian in the usual sense of the word. we see him from the losties perspective and that he is a villian to them but i think why i enjoy watching him so much is because you just never know! i think he believes he is doing the right thing - whatever that may be. but hey, jim jones and david koresh thought they were doing the right thing too!

If being the key instrument in the slaughter of all the members of the Dharma group (too include children and his father) and shooting Locke in the chest does not get Ben considered a "Villian" then he is at the very least he is "Morality Challenged";)

I understand Flynn, but if you thought that you maybe saving all of humanity, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. he could have taken all the losties out if he wanted. I think a part of him whats to let everyone in on things, but knows they could never comprehend it.

yeah and he knows he doesn't have a kidney so he's not shooting to kill.....I liked how Locke made subtle mention of that in front of Ben to the rest of his "followers". It's like "hey-nice joke-way to play off my painful past!"

I hope they save Ben for last=His character is just so much of a mystery and it keeps you coming back. You're always guessing who is going to do an about face and shock the heck out of you!

yeah flynn BUT...r u really going to bring his dad into this???I mean...what a SOB...sorry but he got everything that he deserved....and the kids...we never saw any bodies...r we sure that they killed them????I mean ...they are fascinated with children....why would they kill the dharma kids but keep the two lostie kids alive and well????

after last weeks desmond back story, I think he gets a cut above all the rest. you don't really get to see that kind of acting in a TV show anymore. Completely compelling!, I do think that Charlie belongs in the group with locke, ben, and daniel. His early work with his back story was very emotionally charged, it must be the british thing, they just know drama or something.
