why did penny's father so easily give up his daughters number to desmond? does he somehow know something and figured out a way to find the location of the island? just early thoughts here...

I think because dad has a lot to do wiyh the freighter. Hes probably using des and penny to find the island.

YES...exactly....penny did say on the freightor tele that sayid fixed...that she knew about the island and mentioned research...Charlie did tell her they were on an island but nothing about "research" so i think that while they have been missing she has learned alot

I like where you guys are going with this. The freighter had a special line that Penny was calling but the crew were forbidden from answering her calls. Sounds like something daddy dearest would have put the captain up to.

I also thought it was a little odd that Mr. Widmore turned the phone number over so easily to Desmond of 1996. Do you think Widmore might have know that it was actually Desmond of 2004?

And I think Bunny is on the right track. I'm thinking daddy is using Penny right now and she doesn't know it yet.
