View Full Version : Another time theory, You gotta a problem wid dat, Hey, yo!

This theory may have been discussed previously, and prob. will end up on the heap with many others. it has to do with What daniel said to des back at Oxford. He said his equation has no constants, so you need to pick one.
I admit I would prob. never be accepted into any reputable Physics PHd program.
However, I have studied calculus and physics, mostly Newtonian, and i can't recall being able to solve any aquation without a constant somewher. that is the nature of an equation, it has to equate to something.
i also can't think of any constant at least with respect to earth that is not related to time in some fashion. The force of gravity for example.
Therfoer if Daniel's equation has no constant, it therefore must preclude time in it's solution. So maybe we can look at everything as not having to do with time, but rather the absence of it.
Also if Dharma, hanso, etal were trying to stop the world from ending, one way to succeed is to end time as we know it. You can't have a beginning or an end to something (ie the human race), unless you can relate it time.
Any thoughts?

After reading that let me go take a ride in my tang and think about it my head hurts. Time is irrelivent .spelling. Time is only in our minds. We created time.Time is of this earth. If we leave this earth time changes.

in which context do you mean constant? in terms of the equation or in terms of the daniels explanation of a constant?
i looked at some equations and there were a lot that did not have constants within them and not related to time. although most newtonian ones did involve time in some way.
Robo42
03-01-2008, 08:47 PM
As I said nails, it may end up on the heap. LOL However, It's always a good time to ride in your stang, not just when a whacky theory gives you a seizure. LOl
Robo42
03-01-2008, 08:51 PM
The constant in terms of his equation, B He said it had no constant involved, which is why you had to pick your own( which also prob. would not involve time).
What equation did you see that had no constant relative to time. I'm not questioning you, it's for my own curiosity so my head won't hurt as much.LOL
Does it at least make some sort of logical sense, even if it is way off?
bunnydixon
03-01-2008, 08:53 PM
well the equation for volume - no time, no constant! in literal terms anyway. also rick has a degree in maths so he told me a couple but i started to zone out then lol!
Robo42
03-01-2008, 09:05 PM
I agree, but volume uses units of distance/length, which are arbitrary and not constants. A meter is a unit we made up to keep things in order. I'm thinking the few true constants that exist, ie the speed of sound, speed of light, gravity. They are all constants no matter from what perspective you look at them, they can't change. Time units are also made up, but they relate to time and motion of the planets, which are constant in basic terms.
Robo42
03-01-2008, 09:07 PM
For example the speed of light will never change, it is constant, where as a volume can change depending upon it's dimensions.
bunnydixon
03-01-2008, 09:07 PM
so how could we remove time?
bunnydixon
03-01-2008, 09:08 PM

yeah i get that, i think thats what i was trying to say lol! emphasis on the think!
Robo42
03-01-2008, 09:16 PM
B,I do'nt think we can in real life, but ithink you can for sci fi.
The point I'm ultimately trying to get to is that Des nor anybody else is time traveling, they are existing in all time frames at once. So from your perspective on the island, you are living in both 1996 and 2004 at the same time, or at least part of your consciousness/soul/spirt/sobconscious is.
bunnydixon
03-01-2008, 09:18 PM
i think that is similar to the mental time travel think jacks brought up. or at least my understanding of it.
Robo42
03-01-2008, 09:19 PM
Sorta like the diagram. You and the island are the hub, with an infinite amout of spokes of time radiating out and your soul is being shared on every spoke simulataneously.
Robo42
03-01-2008, 09:20 PM
It could quite pssibly be a theory brought up previously. I just had a Eureka! moment and wanted to share. LOL
bunnydixon
03-01-2008, 09:22 PM
and quite rightly - however your spoke thing has sent my mind off wandering. Its making me think its similar to the residual energy thing i was talking to you about but specific to yourself.
bunnydixon
03-01-2008, 09:25 PM
right not related entirely but rick is playing an xbox game in which you have genetically absorbed all the memories of your ancestors and there is some technology available for these memories to be retrieved....and between where this has headed and the game idea, my brain is getting all worked up...as they could be linked in some way...
Robo42
03-01-2008, 09:26 PM
What specific residual energy thing. LOl I truly don't remember
Enlighten me please.
bunnydixon
03-01-2008, 09:27 PM
oh in one of my waffling pms! you know when people die, they leave a residual energy...possibly...
Robo42
03-01-2008, 09:28 PM
Actually I like that theory, but I don't remember discussing it.
I feel like the entire forum is so close to solving this thing.!!!! AARGH!!!
Robo42
03-01-2008, 09:29 PM
Okay, similar to your soul. It's just semantics, relax!!! LOL LOL
bunnydixon
03-01-2008, 09:30 PM
oh yeah i see - spill my guts and all for nothing :p
lol!
its okay, i glaze over my own wafflings too ;)
Robo42
03-01-2008, 09:37 PM
Now I remember. and you know I enjoy our PM wafflings. Do i dare ask you to recite all my wafflings?
I'd better shut up before you do. LOL
bunnydixon
03-01-2008, 09:40 PM
yes best to ;) :p
lol!
my mind is really wandering with this one. and now i am wondering how psychology plays a part in all this aswell....i keep thinking about MPD and the symptoms for that too.

P.S. Having someone turned on when I talk physics is in itself a turn on.
P.S.S. B, you and jacks have big windows. I feel like the both of you are staring at me because I've done or said something that now has me in trouble. LOL

I bet most of those people end up here cause they did some internet search and found themselves on one of the forum pages. Actually I bet there is a fair number of guests who were just searching for porn and ended up here. Try to see if the weird obscure posts the guests are reading have dirty key words that would be found in a search.

chestering is the act of doing chester-like things. If there was a competition for chestering then you, chester, would have a very unfair advantage.
Personally, I think you have done a great job of chestering thus far and hope you continue to do so in the future. Frankly, I can't see how you won't.
^ Has a lot to say and has never been shy about sharing it!
< Thinks the TP Baxtering should be left to TP Baxter
v Thinks Mortimer was a perfectly good name but has a few more ideas!
I assume the same thing for tpbaxtering, although you should probably ask the person who coined the phrase for more a definitive answer. I'm not exactly sure who or what TP Baxter is, but I was guessing she was referring to me and it was just some kind of spacing and capitalization typo by LiSSa Ma R I e.
yeah - i only get baxter-itis once a month :p :p
Again, best to consult with the doctor who coined the name of this condition, but my best guess is that baxter-itis is something similar to PMS?
uh oh... looks like someone is coming down with a bad case of pung-itis!
pungitis is the condition of becoming more pung-like. For example, if you started to become fixated on breasts and providing sane and rational analogies that clearly explain time travel in Lost, then you might be coming down with a sever case of pung-itis.

I think you are right. Pung probably does have the most rational and sane analogies that support the delusion of WHH as the state of timetravel in LOST. Just that wee ontological problem to account for I suppose. ;)

Does sound move through water at the same as it does through air? Or some gas like helium? If not it's not constant.
I like the idea of ending time which jibes with my thought that by traveling back in time you automatically cause a loop which in effect ends time at the point at which you traveled back. (personally I think time travel is impossible)

I think sound travels at different speeds through different medium. And I agree completely Boutte, time travel is impossible....so far. It is only strictly a theoretic possibility and not widely accepted by the scientific community. I like your theory very much, btw.
