I don't understand why they are so famous. They survived a plane crash. People survive plane crashes. What makes the Oceanic 6 so special that other countries are writing about it?

They were missing for over 100 days on a 'deserted' island with 'no food or supplies.' And they crashed in the water. I don't think too many people survive water crashes... what with all ... the water?

Haha, also because they probably got HUGE settlements from the airline. People with money are always famous.

Well when there is a big video presentation showing the plane under water and stating all the passengers are confirmed dead on board....then all of a sudden some are found...it becomes a big deal.

ditto here BUT...one thing is still bothering me......Kate's mom after the hearing is talking to kate and says that she has cancer and that the doctors have been telling her that she is going to die for six years (or was it 4).....so....were they gone a lot longer and that is more of the big deal besides all of the other points that have been brought up in here????just putting that one out there

When mom was in teh hospital and screamed for the cops, that was before the toy plane was put into the bank safe deposit box and before the bank robbery and before kate went down under. Who knows how long before the crash she was actually diagnosed?

I agree that we don't know how long, but I think there is a reason she says that, and we are supposed to use it as a sort of timeline. Just makes sense to me, why else would they put that in there?

i think she was just trying to say she has fought it for a reason. she cant allow herself die until she resolves her issues with kate.

not that many people survive plane crashes - especially not ones that have been found and all passengers announced dead then 3 months + later some survivors turn up. look at the andes guys - they got a movie!!!

We don't yet know the circumstances of their rescue. It could have been a 24/7 media event a la CNN/Fox News. Christ, if in the real world Britney and Paris Hilton get so much TV attention, then the Oceanic 6 ought to be media darlings!

Going along with that train of thought-Haven't you noticed when it's a dull time for outrageous news there's suddenly a remote weather event or some minor news item that they blow up into mass hysteria?

I really dont think that there leaving the island is coming that soon, maybe at the end of season5 or midway thru season 6....which is still a long WAY AWAY!!
