Thought this was kinda interesting after re-watching some of the old episodes and with the re-emergence of the Black Rock. The Black Rock was a slave ship and we heard Sawyer singing Redemption Song in one episode (one of my personal favs...song & Sawyer singing it :) ) and the song's about a slave ship obviously...but if you think about the title...redemption song...aren't they all finding their redemption on this island?!? I'm sure it's been brought up here there or somewhere but it was a minor epiphany to me. Again, my English Major brain~Anyone else got any like this?

I like it Skates, just have not heard much of the songs on the show before. How about some G-n-R, offspring, coldplay, or ramones.?

You remember, robo, I'm a hippie lol....Hey though about bands...totally forgot about this. When Locke meets the undercover cop in Season Three he's wearing the shirt from the band Hurley and Charlie are talking about in the Hatch....Thought that was weird. Totally can't remember the name of the band now....of course. Ok It was Geronimo Jackson and the undercover made some comment about his dad being a big fan right?

I have felt from the beginning that they all had to face their "demons" or deal with the negatives in their lives and being on the island gives them this chance to "redeem" themselves...which makes me question the "black smoke"...maybe being part of the negative that shows up periodically.

Well and the episode where Ecko is to "redeem" himself and confess his sins, the black smoke kills him! (I think Smoke On The Water by Deep Purple would have been a little awkward in this scene-but c'mon...smoke...water...purple sky when the hatch implodes! Perfect!)

I keep thinking that slow piano music is like "one on one" by John Hall from the 80's or else a rip off of it. It's not exactly the way I remember it.

yeah....next thing u know they are gonna whip out some jackson 5.....some modern music would be good but i think that its more than re the songs themselves but maybe more the genre of music.....times recorded...ie in the hatch alot of 50 and 60's....

Dessie_Hull brought up a good point elsewhere-I knew Nirvana was playing Scentless Apprentice in S4 ep 1 and we've discussed Perfume the book and how it was odd to be playing that song that was made popular by a band at the height of their fame in the 90's, when the scene was a flashforward. Dessie noticed it in either last week or the previous week's episode, too. When looking into a site mentioned on another thread, http://www.huxley.net/island/index.html
it said that Nirvana is a "blissful state or freeness of mind" Maybe it's not the book we are supposed to take note of or even the band...but the name of the band. It's all going down in the flash forwards- both times w/ jack in the scene I believe....he's having the hardest time dealing with whatever they left behind...No freeness of mind, no clear conscious, no blissful state for him. Everyone check out the Huxley thread, too....Dessie found something really cool linking his work, The Island to Lost....
