And feel free to use your own interpretation as to whom they may be...but which of the characters are expected to be the least flawed?

You have Jacob who talks peacefully and probably believes he has good intentions, but he is one of the two most manipulative characters on the show.

You have MiB/FLocke/etc. who seems to have a genuine desire to kill when he deems necessary without any clear intent as to end purposes or what have you

You have Ben who has done everything from kidnap a child and called his own daughter, but he has, arguably, the longest laundry list of misdeeds of anybody on the show.

You have Widmore who is still a mysterious character, but there are plenty of reasonable suspicions about him (IMO, he's the least flawed of the 4 mentioned thus far).

You have the Oceanic characters such as Sayid, Kate, Sawyer, Jin -> all of whom have some sort of blood on their hands.

You have characters such as Hurley, Jack, Locke, Sun -> all of whom have some sort of character flaws, but no real misdeeds themselves.

There are the "others" who seem to be an over-manipulated bunch of folks who do whatever their "superiors" tell them.

So who is that you are rooting for and why? Which flaws of theirs are you willing to overlook and why? Or do you see any characters as being otherwise flawless?

I ask this because I'm confused as to who to actually root for. I find myself rooting for Sawyer, but just because I like his character, not because I think he is "good" or supposed to be the "protagonist" the show seems to be more entertaining when he is doing well. I find myself rooting for Widmore because he is the most mysterious and least damning, IMO (see above). But of the prominent characters, I don't find any of them to be particularly likable.

none of the characters are flawless. Even hurley and sun have killed people. If being a candidate is about being good then none of these people should be candidates still. That's why I say that the whole mib and jacob conflitct has nothing to do with people being able to be good.

As far as I know, Lapidus is the only character who hasn't killed anyone yet. I'm down with him.

The show up to this point is keeping the true nature of the main characters ambiguous. As far as who's ultimately good or evil, we won't know until this season plays out. Everyone is flawed. Some more than others.

Here's how I stand as of now:

I am on Team Jacob over MiB.

Team Jack over Team Sawyer

Team Kate, bc. she's hot.

Hurley is my homeboy.

Desmond is my constant.

I like Miles a lot even though he's a greedy little f'er.

I loved Locke until he died and became MiB.

Ben Linus is the best character on the show.

Everyone one else, blah mah mah schmlah... I don't really care. At this point Jin and Sun are annoying the hell out of me with their reunion. Sayid is badass but clearly not the Sayid we love. Claire is bat**** crazy. Richard is bitching out. Ilana is cool, but too new for me to be attached. The jury is still out on Widmore for me, but I'm starting to come around after always thinking he was no good. Aaron is not cute. Waaaaaaalt is huge. The Geek squad hopefully die Frogurt-like deaths. Rose and Bernard are Adam and Eve. Everyone else is dead.

We talked about this recently but I'm not sure if you were here yet, Tcragg. I don't think Jin has killed anyone either. Just saying.

I SOOOOO agree about not caring much for the Jin/Sun story. Yawn, snore.

HA! Well, then I guess that settle that! LOL

This is a nice thread and well thought out.
I am thinking that EVERYONE has a chance of redemption if they are repentant. None are unflawed, none are sinless. Few infractions can be said are lesser than anothers.
They all have a choice, as Jacob said.
Hugo seems to be the least flawed.
I am thinking Team Jacob would be the way to go at this point.

Actually I think Jin stayed behind and blew up tents killing others at the end of season 3.

I'm still shocked at how many people hate on Sun and Jin all the time. Please, it's not as if they have actually spent 20 min of screen time on their story since season 4. If 30 seconds of them on screen searching for each other bothers you that much, you have issues. I've suffered through Clair, Michael, Julliet, and Charlotte stories, so when it comes time for the first Sun/Jin Episode since "Ji Yeon" I'll appreciate the haters shutting up. And don't act like you weren't into that episode, maybe you're board with them since they haven't had a centric episode in a year and a half.

Holster your weapon there Quick Draw. The haters have a voice too. :p

I'm not a Jin/Sun hater (although I'm welcome to feel that way if I wanted to, just as you are welcome not to agree). I just happen to think their story is boring. I'm not as invested in it as I used to be and think maybe that's because they haven't revisited it in such a long time. I think it also has a little to do with the fact that they lead us to believe that Jin was killed on the freighter for such a long time and a lot of us had accepted his character's death. I'm looking forward to their reunion but I'm also kind of hoping that Jin and Sun end up on opposing sides in the end. Twisted? I suppose so but a girl can dream. :D

I think Jin and Sun are sweet together and I look forward to their reunion.
I do not think they are crucial to the show nor do I think that either is going to be Jacob's replacement, BUT... I do respect the characters for being among those who basically move the show along, as seems some of their purpose for being there. Plus, they are two of the original 14 ... so gotta luv'em just for that reason alone. :)

that's the best part about lost. 8 episodes from the finale and i still don't know who the bad guy is.

I agree with that too, Lobster. As much as people are complaining about not getting enough answers, I think it would be anti-climactic to know too much. I think the mystery and confusion is what makes this show so damn addicting! :)

Of course you're welcome to you opinion. I guess my point is that maybe someone should start the "I hate Sun & Jin" thread so that those who feel that way can support each other's opinion rather than post negatives about them on every third thread. To each their own, I just get annoyed when it seems to have no bearing on the topic of the thread, like in this thread.

modern man story=redemption

somewhere in their lives they messed up being shunned by society, then they have a chance to turn it around and ultimately become the hero.
Who does this sound like among some of the main characters?

to me it sounds like; kate, sayid, ben, sawyer & desmond. Desmond seems to be less flawed b/c of only being a drunk monk and a non-commital pussy. So you narrow it down to the other three and if you've seen the season 1 dvd xtras you know that kate will ultimately save the day.

Heehee....you could try to start an "I hate Sun and Jin" thread but I suspect it would evolve into a discussion about how much people love Desmond or Italian food or something of the sort. It's just an inevitability, Cowboy. No sense trying to fight it. :)
