Because saying "the package" was simply a way to keep the audience from knowing what/who it was until the end reveal.

Quite honestly I think that's all there is to it.

The thing is, what is it about Desmond that makes him so important. As Eloise Hawking said "You're not yet done with the island." Still ambiguous. Anyway, so good to see him back. The sneak peak shows the flash sideways with him & Claire at the airport. What a teaser... so little to go on. :rolleyes:
