Since that other thread about the constant got slightly off topic (ha ha ;))
I thought I'd try this.
Choosing a person as your constant seems like a bad idea because you don't really know they will be alive in the future, or they may not be easily reachable.
As far as I can recall, Des chose Penny with his 1996 knowledge only, right?

Off topic? all in good fun though :) Yes, he did choose her w/ his 1996 knowledge, but after he knew she existed in the "present"-when Minowski told him about how she called but they were instructed not to answer I believe. But with the spirit of the game in mind...I would chose my hometown...I've lived here my whole life and I think that familiarity would be enough to get me thru.

OK so his '96 consciousness did know she was alive, i guess that makes it a more sensible choice.
It would be horribly nightmarish if you chose a person, tried hard to seek them out to make contact and found out they were dead.
That would make a good plot twist though.

LOL unknown....i do believe that i was one of the ones responsible for getting off topic.....and i posted the thread..haha..sorry.....anyway...yes i think that it could be a bad idea...what if something does happen to that person.....but could it be that if someone has that special of a place in ur heart....it doesn't matter if they live in the future....after all des carried the picture so that deep down inside no matter what....it would all come back to him......thank god the pic didn't get lost...then there could have been trouble...i think that i would pick my daughter no matter what cuz if i had something of hers like a pic or a necklace around my neck...wouldn't that bring it all back....did i make any sense???

Yeah but all we need is another plot twist haha there are enough right? This is off topic but I think one of the reasons there's so much "speculation" about this episode is not just that it's a very unusual topic and somewhat "out-there" (but I'm enjoying it!) but because Desmond has kinda disappeared this season (Um....remember when we were trying to figure out what team he went with b/c he wasn't even in that episode for more than a few seconds!!) And I know, personally, I needed a refresher on some of des' flashbacks (hence my saturday nite in w/ season 3!!) I guess I'm saying Des wouldn't be a good constant for us since he fades in and out of the spotlight haha...see I brought it back on topic!

Yes, I'm confused about this too - what sort of thing could you have as your constant if it wasn't a person? Surely nobody would choose anything else other than someone they care for as their constant anyway?
