Whispers

I just had this really wierd thought.
What if the whispers are the people that (mind)travel and find that their body is dead. Would they just float around?
I seem to remember that one of the whispers was Boone saying "being dead sucks":confused:

That could explain why Miles was recruited for the trip. He ain't afraid of no ghost!

Miles seems to need the "dustbuster" when he's communicating with the ghost in the boy's room. On the island he talks with Naomi's spirit w/o it. The whispers sound like a mish-mash of (adult?) voices. Wouldn't it seem that he would need the dustbuster to narrow down or block out the mix of voices on the island? I don't know why or what they are, but you have brought up an intriguing question. It's one of the great mysteries IMO.

maybe the dustbuster was to create a white noise-esque effect to draw the spirits in whereas the island does it naturally?

I think it seems the most likely explanation - Ben's mother coming out of the forest that time and telling him he wasn't ready yet, all the whispering going on there
