Okay, so what's bugging Patchy now? It seems that we have received the gift of some answers, but we are more perplexed than ever.

Some Facts

1. Des flies through electrical storm and losses his current memory and flashes between 96 and 04.

2. No physical time travel, but mental.

3. Without a constant in both time frames, your brain bleeds out your nose.

4. Daniel shots Eloise with weird radiation light, she mentally jumps to the future to learn maze, returns with memory to run it. Rat brain can't handle it and she dies.

5. Radioman is mentally time travelling (appraently back in time-ferris wheel) but has no current memory loss. No constant, so he dies.

Helps in Understanding Des

So now we understand Des' weird flashbacks after the hatch blew. Remember that he went back to a post Army time when he reunited with Penny, but he retained his island memories. He was trying to make things right with Penny this time. But the ring sales lady called him out and said that he cannot control fate (who is she?). Was the constant the Momma Cass song that he heard in the hatch and pub that brought him back to his present island time and kept his brain from leaking through his nose?

So?

1. What determines whether you travel forward or backwards in time? Daniel's experiment clearly vaulted Eloise forward. Des, however, went backward?

2. Des seemed to be the only one who lost his present memory. Why? Radioman was traveling into the past but retained his present memory!

3. So was Des mentally travelling to the future when he could see how Charlie was going to die and then later saving him? Without a constant, why did'nt his brain explode? Or wa Cahrlie the constant?

4. Was Daniel's light the same as from the hatch explosion, just on a smaller scale?

5. Are chalotte's shirts too tight, so as to expose her back fat?

HAHAHAHAHA I didn't notice anything about Charlotte's shirts! But I've been wondering about him seeing the flashes of Charlie before too, how was that different? I really hope they start explaining things a little better, because if they want the average viewer to understand it better they really should!

well - i have problems with desmonds time travelling too - firstly he went backwards so it would seem it was island des to 96 des. then on the next bout of movement it was 96 des to island des so at this point, where the hell is island desmonds consciousness?

also see my post about dan and the rat.

Yeah, that's what I'm wondering too. Where does the alternate consciousness go? Minkowski and Desmond seemed to black out at times (phone booth, stairwell, men's bathroom, radio room, etc.). Yet during Desmond's rainy army drill work, 2004 Des was surprisingly there in place of 1996 Des, right?

yeah, nothing seemed 'constant' ;)

lol that was lame - but i cant help myself :D

Just remembered that several references were made that each experience is different for people, and that things may change from trip to trip. I guess that covers all the bases...:rolleyes:

Why different for everyone? Scientifically, you should either be able to go forward or backward, but not both. There needs to be something that triggers the direction you travel?

well for eloise it was the radiation but for desmond was it the passing through whatever it is you pass through to get to and from the island?

Good questions. Why 1996 for Desmond, i.e.? Do they get Frequent Time Traveler Flier miles, etc.? Man, "more questions" is right...

There must be a Wayback machine in Ben's evil basement lair.

Chaos theory is going to give a different result everytime, Go to the Island website that Skatertsol1 listed on her thread.Even with a constant there will be variations just like the coordinates that were slightly shakey-there will be a degree of uncertainty in the value effecting the results-time/mental travel etc. everytime.

Maybe coming in to the island gives you future travel and leaving gives you past travel> Just a thought>

As was stated each "trip" through time is different for each person, and the time and locations for each trip is probably different too. And like on Quantum Leap
the current time memory is like swiss cheese.

Maybe the cloud is radiation and magnetisim build up. Just a thought.

In Quantum Leap, I believe he never went forward.

Thats true he only traveled within his lifetime

I think whats important is that we understand Desmonds story. His encounters with time travel have been different from Minkoswky or Faraday. His started on the island with the hatch exploding where apparently he has blown into the past, and then back to the future ;) where he now has the ability to look into the future.

His reaction to passing through the storm head portal is different from Faraday or Minkowsky who both have had different reactions. Faraday seemingly has memory problems, and I dont see any indication that Minkowsky was coming from the past to the future.

In fact other then his blank outs do we know where Minkowsky was going? The future or the past?

Desmond (who already had traveled through time and can now see the future) had a very unique experience...his past self was transported into the future.
