now i dnt even think this is possible but wutever lol..... this is Lost
In an atom there is an electron cloud that surrounds the nucleus which is basically a bunch of electrons (depending on the atom) moving about freely in orbital patterns. now, is it possible for the electrons to get on the outside of an atom? if so, the smoke creature may be a HUGE mass of atoms and the smoke may be the electron cloud. the electrons move freely which may be wut gives the smoke monster such a wide variety of shapes.
just a crazy idea,... we were learning about that stuff in class the other day and it made me think about Lost

very interesting ....aw yes to be in school again and soak it all in.....i think that "whatever" it is and god knows that we have thrown all kind of theories out there.....it can either reflect ones life in a form of pictures which we have seen before...to possibly help reflect on ones life and work through issues OR possibly can pull info from each person for who knows...jacob???or something/someone higher for information purposes>>>its late and i think that i have started on the nonsense trail.....lol

Ask your teacher what makes a mass of inside out atoms pick someone up and beat the hell out of them. :D

If that is the right answer, I don't hink it explains what the smoke monster is.
If you asked who Ben was and I said some answer about a carbon based life form comprised mostly of water, that would be less that satisfactory.
I say we all quit asking what the smoke monster is and hope we understand what the heck they are talking about when it is explained.

I'm sure it's gonna be partially explained this season, because they made a point of Locke bringing up the issue with Ben!

my idea does explain wut it could be.... a mass a atoms which happen to have the electron clouds on the outside of the atoms, compared to around the nucleus, within the atom. obviously this had to have been man-made, i doubt something like the smoke monster would jst appear out in nature.... although this is Lost so idk.

Smoke monster might be just like a psychological experiment. Yeah, it can kill when all psych evaluation I have done are non-lethal, but here me out.
Push that button every 108 minutes and you save the world. That's what they tell you. It will make loud noises and activate a magnet so it scares you to push the button.
What you don't know:
If you don't push it, something little happens - but you are alive, and no more of it.
However, every time you pushed that button for the last three years it unleashed the smoke monster and people died.
How much of a mind game would that be?
