Okay so this is my first post. I have not read your board to much but I have something to say. I started rewatching from season one with a friend who never saw the show. I noticed there are tons of things the writers seemed to just drop. Like libby was in the mental institution. There should have been some big story there. Or how about people seeing things. No one sees things in the jungle anymore. Like Kate and the horse. How about the smoke. When was the last time we saw that. And who really are these others. I know we have a lot of time left for the show. I just feel they left so much out and went out on this wild tangent with the rescue boat thing. I think they should have covered more of the mystery of the island before going on. I feel like there are big ideas that were just dropped for some wild time travel theroy. On a side note one of the other things I noticed while rewatching the season is when sayid fixes the radio and they hear music Hurley says it could be comming from any where or any time "just kidding man" is this some sort of hint of things to come :) well maybe some aviod watches understand some of the mysterys better than me but I would have liked to see more concrte explaintions of what has happened already rather than a whole new wild theory.

yes there a lotta older mysteries that we need to come back to and solve. I am under the impression that libby will be back in flashbacks to have more of that story revealed and the losties do still see stuff from time to time, granted it is less frequent. however, we dont know why they see what they see so the fact that it happens less could be related to something that has already happened or it could be that the writers have taken it away from the focus for the time being.
i do hope they cover most of the mysteries addressed at some point between now and the end of the show.

as for the black smoke, no ones knows, When Locke asked Ben what is was, Ben didn't know what it was/is.....
and for the others, as far as we know, they are the orginial group on the island, probrably before dharma. But again the question, who and where did they come from. Are they the crew of the black rock ?????

I dont think that the old mysteries are forgotten. I think the rescue ship is a great way to introduce and explain alot of those prior mysteries. The ship is there because of the island not the survivors. They appear to have quite a bit of knowledge about the island. We have barley even began to touch upon the real reasons for thier trip there. We know Daniels purpose has at to do with time shifting but who knows what else.

Good points stonal69. The writers have definitely left a LOT of unanswered questions from the early seasons. Part of the problem is that the studios are dragging this show out for a total of 6 seasons. Don't get me wrong, I love this show. I just wish they wouldn't drag it out.
That being said, I guess it would be best to save my final judgement for the end of season 6.

Libby is scheduled to be on the show in the next few weeks, so I'm
guessing they will get back to her relation to Hurley.

As to all of the loose ends-I agree that they aren't tied up. If you read about Chaos theory, you may get a hint of the instability of time travel, no infinitely precise instrument calculations, and the degree of uncertainty in any measurement. My opinion is that the anomalies have to do with past and current trips to and from the island.Somehow these things were caught by the instability of the island or snagged if you will.I hope the writers can explain the unexpected stuff in a fairly cohesive way.

Well, at least as far as the Monster, the producers have stated numerous times that we have seen the Monster FAR more than we "think" we have (meaning "it" has likely appeared as manifestations of other characters).
In MY eyes, the Monster accounts for practically every strange vision ever seen on the Island (Jack's early visions of Christian in opening episodes, Shannon's visions of Walt, Locke's vision of Walt when he was in the pit, and perhaps even Hurley's "vision" [or not] of the cabin).
