I don't like Jacob, he makes me so mad, he just weaves and expects everyone to figure out what to do with no clues, no protection, don't like him, I said he just eats fish and weaves.

I'm telling ya. I knew it as soon as I saw all those alien statues in Anthony Cooper's house and those weird masks and map of the cosmos in Ben's bedroom. :D
Cyborg from Planet X. ;)

Whatever Jacob is, it's unmarketable, and potentially ludicrous.

He's a random dude that JJ Abrams thought would make him money via the ABC cash cow. Low and behold, he's effing rich.

But for real, Jacob something all together new. He is going to need a lot of explaining, but I fear we will receive none. He can grant people the ability to live forever, which is most likely the extent of his powers. He can leave the island, which is my opinion connects him to Desmond. Although Desmond did not "leave" the island the other week, his mind did. I think Jacob has the ability to "jump" between his two realities, in much the same way as Des. While Desmond was in the new reality, the time on the island virtually stayed the same. They showed us that for a reason, not just for Desmond to leave for 4 seconds. With that, I think the island is a vehicle. How or why it is and has been used, Im still working on.

So random. My mind is trash today. 420.

my thoughts on jacob:

he's definitely Not God. he does, however, like to play God, albeit in a somewhat passive-aggressive way.
he's really into symbolism and mythology.
for some reason, despite his Judeo-Christian/Biblical allegories, he's really into Egyptology.
he doesn't really have an easily-defined philosophy. we cant clearly say, "he represents philosophy X." he does seem to believe that humans may not be inherently good, but can be redeemed.
he likes to touch people he thinks are special.
he has a unique relationship with the island.
he has a unique, possibly familial, antitheistic relationship with MiB.
he has special powers, but he is not immortal, omnipotent nor omniscient.
he can be really annoying, but isn't evil.
he doesnt age and has a permanent three-day growth of stubble.
he does, however, get haircuts.
he can leave the island anytime he wants.
he is completely unfazed by his own death.
he likes to drink wine.

I voted other.

He is obviously not just some guy nor is he God. MiB is obviously a supernatural creature. He's at least a couple of hundred years old, can turn into an ethereal monster at will can create a living body that he can inhabit, etc. etc. I don't think he was ever a man.

So it's not that big a jump for me to think that Jacob could also be supernatural. Maybe he's an angel of some sort. MiB is either a demon or a Djinn. (if there's a difference.)

I am convinced that Jacob is the one to fear most on the island, dead or alive.

Other:

He's a crazy man, raised by his crazy mother, and for whatever reason can manipulate the unique, specific electromagnetic qualities of the island to be ageless and heal people or something.

Being crazy, he's convinced he's right about everything. Being right costs hundreds of people's lives over the course of many centuries; but hey, that's no big deal, right? This, to me, makes him a devil in a way. Letting loads of people die to win a game is just horrible.

I'm close to the Cyborg from Planet-X.

I think hes a citizen of the Atlantian outpost province of Old Egypt who's philosophical consciousness was split. Lucky for him, he was an empiricist so he got the "body" while Smokie got the "ethereal soul".

That's who I voted for. It fits well and since Vincent was not a choice here, just "A Dog" I went with it. :D

He's just the philosophy of God, not God himself? So Jacob is a book or a post or something, who goes by the name of Jacob and looks uncannily like a man? :p:D

Jacob is a character on a television series. How is that for ambiguity?

Jacob is the manifestation of free will... That's it. He told Richard straight up who he was. Flocke is the manifestation of determinism or destiny. That is why he says to Jack last night after the shelling... "You're with me now." Jack has made the jump to the side that believes that the island 'controls' their destiny.

Whether you perceive free will or destiny as good or evil - that is who the characters become... or what they become.
