You know how the books they read on the show have some clues to what is going on on the island? Well what about the VHS movie Hurley put on a few episodes ago?

The title of the film "Xanadu" is a reference to the poem "Kubla Khan, or A Vision in a Dream. A Fragment." by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, which is quoted in the film. Xanadu is the name of the Chinese province where Khan establishes his pleasure garden in the poem.

Another song that has a lot to do with what is going on in Lost is the E.L.O. track "I'm Alive" form the same film.

Sounds kind of like there is a connection to me. What do you all make of this?

BTW, E.L.O. and Olivia Newton-John are magic together! The movie may be dated, but I love the sound. :o

I hate to admit it but I know this movie too and almost referenced it last week but felt that I would be laughed at and deservedly so. The reason I was going to reference it was because in that movie they have Greek (?) Gods watching them through a sort of crystal ball. I have a theory that that is what is happening on the island and that is where the whispers are coming from. OK let me have it.

Olivia Newton John circa 1980? Hell yeah. Now... not so much although I would choose her over Isabel and Amelia.

Okay and I'll admit that I had the album and listened to it ad naseum. It was cheesy that "Xanadu" turned out to be just a trendy 80's roller rink inspired by muse Olivia! But its not all bad, The Tubes were also in it! (W.P.O.D.)

Yeah, I find it odd that the others have creature comforts, but most are dated like they do not have access to all new stuff, all the time. But what did bug me was the Kate and Sawyer scene in the kitchen, because there was a coffee maker on the counter that did not look like it was more than a year old and even post 2004. If so, you'd think all the huts would have Sat. Dishes and DVDs, etc.

This is a recurring theme on the show.

You are correct. Also in "Defending Your Life" it's the same sort of thing.

In the "Xanadu" episode (can't remember the name...??) they showed with the subtitles, they explained Xanadu as "an island where dreams come true".
So, I am sure there is some relevance between Xanadu and the Lost Island...the writers never make a move without it being significant in some way. Just some quick thoughts on it: Locke - got use of his legs back
Kate - not a fugitive anymore
Charlie(when alive) - not an addict
anymore
Rose - cancer all gone
Hurley - no more $$, no more bad luck
Claire - got to be a good mom
Sun - conceived a child
Thinking about more for the other people....those are just off the top of my head.........
